Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

Is heaven and hell a state of mind? What about being
rich or poor? Or even being happy or sad?

Is the glass half-full or half-empty? It's really
interesting how one looks at life and situations.
Do we sweat the small stuff?

If you think you're getting the short-end of the stick,
just take out pen and paper and list down all the things
you're thankful for and the things you think you're
being short-changed. You would be amazed.

I guess my colleague's friend would never be able
to do that as at twenty-nine, he passed away yesterday.
He collapsed after a game of badminton, was in ICU for
two days and didn't regain consciousness.
May he rest in peace.

They say life is short. 'Short' is relative. I say
life is precious. We need to be treasuring every moment
that we have - either to live the life we want or for the
betterment or comfort of another.

Make every moment or every marble count for ourselves
or for others because we never know when it's going
to be our last. Live life like there's no tomorrow.

  1. Your colleague suddenly collapsed and died at 29? 8-0 What was the cause?!?

Those are some very thought-provoking observations and reflections, Happy.

Incidentally, concerning the "Is the glass half-full or half-empty" question, my answer is, "Instead of sitting there looking at the glass, why not pick up the damned thing and drink it? Isn't that what it's for?!?" *sigh* Why waste a perfectly good drink on ambiguous philosophy?

  3. yes, was having lunch with a collegue whose dad pass away last week.

Life is indeed too short and unpredictable to be unhappy.

    May you be happysurfer forever!

  4. actually I told my collegue that dying of stroke is the best way to die, no suffering, unlike cancer old age or some infectious diseases. The only bad thing is that the shock of losing someone precious is left to the family.

But then again, the choice of how to die is not with us, unless suicide...

  5. Oh man! That is sad news. I'm 29 and it could have been anyone of us. Marbles or not, life is to be cherished. Yes, the one left behind suffers the shock and depression.

Stroke, the silent killer. How safe do we really think we are? Are we properly guarded? I guess we'll never know.

  6. Death is so sad. More so if suicide is the cause. Death deprives the living of so much but life goes on and time heals.

    "May you be happysurfer forever!"
-- Thank you, Dear Robin. That is so sweet. I shall try.

Agus, indeed life is to be cherished.

-- Several years ago, a colleague passed away from cardiac arrest. He seemed to be as fit as a fiddle - no ailments, no complaints and his medical checkup showed a clean bill of health. One morning, he just collapsed and was gone. It was devastating for his family.

Oops! Let's get back to Robin's flowers. They bring more cheer. Thank you, guys, for sharing your thoughts and wisdom.

  7. "for ourselves and others"...

Yes, for others as what we do won't matter to us when we are gone, but everything we do for good or ill will still matter to those whose lives we have touched.

and while your up, will you please refill my glass?

  9. There is this line from Nabokov: "The cradle rocks above the abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness."

  10. One thing about having lived through a terrorist attack - it's not that I don't still find myself frustrated, sad, or angry about things in life, but I do think that behind the negative emotions there's always an appreciation for the "in life" part. I could so easily not have been around to write this...brrr.

Yeah. Flowers. Flowers...mmm yes, my friend Pat gave me some forsythia stalks the weekend I went up & worked on the kayaks with her and Jack...they are still blooming and there are some that are shooting out leaves. I'm wondering if they might grow roots...

  11. Fullmoon, hits the nail smack on the head, doesn't it? The fragility of life. Thank you for sharing that.

Hi Bonnie. Life would be unnatural if we do not express our emotions, good or bad. Like you said "that behind the negative emotions there's always an appreciation for the "in life" part." If we have to, rant, laugh, cry, be wild, swear, so that we may get back to the grain of normalcy. Thank you for your thoughts.

    Flowers and life.
