I have tried the curry laksa (pretty good) at a stall by the roadside right at the beginning of Jalan Alor. I used to eat at the corner chicken rice stall too, the one opposite KFC. Not sure if it's still there. Any idea?

Changkat Tong Shin (did I get that right?) has some remarkable food too. I better quit talking about food. It's making me really hungry and it's not even dinner time. Luckily, the eateries are still operated by the Chinese, otherwise we would not be able to savour the famous Hokkien mee at the traffic light junction, nor the soybean drink opposite it nor the porridge and wantan mee near Kwong Yik/Bangkok Bank, etc., etc.

I also like the other side of Chinatown, the side along Jalan Sultan. I like the sight of tourists (mostly Caucasians) seated at the tables with their red table cloths and empty beer bottles. This scene is best viewed before nightfall when you can have a better view of the place bustling with activity. Makes my heart sing just imagining it.

Did you know there are two shops selling antique items along that street? From Macy, they are on the right after the junction.

Also, there is this famous chicken rice shop at the end of the row. Their pickled veg dish is super! Ooh, I am hungry already just talking about it. I think Jalan Alor has better food nowadays though I can't say for sure cos I've not visited Chinatown for some time.foongpchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09592884550810521137noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9814112.post-2686774821996293682008-08-28T10:14:00.000+08:002008-08-28T10:14:00.000+08:00i was staying at Swiss Garden Hotel when i went to...i was staying at Swiss Garden Hotel when i went to KL in 2006. I didn't realise Chinatown was only to the hotel's left. Instead i took the monorail and made one big round to get there :pMockingbirdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06138644598929711369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9814112.post-54538399599323036422008-08-28T00:16:00.000+08:002008-08-28T00:16:00.000+08:00Frankly, I miss the old Chinatown..these days, it'...Frankly, I miss the old Chinatown..these days, it's more like a "foreign" town with non-Chinese manning most of the biz.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
