Michael Jackson Earnings Grow After Death

Have you heard the line about a person being worth more dead than alive? We only hear that in movies, particularly cowboy movies that feature sheriffs, bounty-hunters and such. In contemporary times, being worth more dead than alive hardly exist. Michael Jackson must be the first.

It has been 48 days since Michael Jackson died, and while family members of the late pop star are still at war with the executors of his estate, the answer to another question — how much the singer is worth in death — is becoming clear. He has already earned $100 million through a film deal and various merchandising contracts, and the executors expect another $100 million to roll in by the end of the year.

Perseid Meteor Shower - Aug 8 to 14

If you do a search on google.com today, you will come across this Google logo. And if you just mouse over the logo, it says Perseid Meteor Shower.

Yes, we are now in the midst of a meteor shower, Perseid's and today, August 12, is actually around the peak of the shower. According to Wikipedia, The shower is visible from mid-July each year, with the greatest activity between August 8 and 14, peaking about August 12. During the peak, the rate of meteors reaches 60 or more per hour. They can be seen all across the sky, but because of the path of Swift-Tuttle's orbit, Perseids are primarily visible in the northern hemisphere.

Happy meteor-gazing..

Latest from The Star: Malaysians will be able to sight up to a total of 100 Perseid meteors per hour streaking across the northern sky in the wee hours of Thursday morning. The meteor shower is expected to be best viewed from 1.30am to 4am on Thursday.

Those who miss tomorrow’s meteor shower may still catch a “lesser version” after midnight Thursday, or early Friday morning.

The meteor shower can be observed with the naked eye.

Photography of an unusual kind

This is a pen. It sure looks like a pen, doesn't it? Only thing is, it is not a pen per se but rather a camera under the guise of a pen. Great invention, and like all great inventions they serve the better good of mankind but if used inappropriately, they can get people into trouble.

Last month, The New Paper of Singapore carried a story about a Comfort taxi-driver exposed for snapping secret 'upskirt' shots in his cab with his hidden pen camera.

The cabbie has since been fired from his job and is under Police investigation. If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to a year, or fined, or both.

I hope this 'act' is not happening here though there have been some instances of hidden camera found in changing rooms and restrooms. There are also emails warning of camera affixed on shoes or cameras that shoot through clothes. Have you experienced any such untoward incident? I hope not.

By the way, did you notice that there has not been any news of cab-rapes lately in KL after the culprit has been caught? It sure is a big relief because I do take cabs sometimes.

Take care..

Victoria Beckham In American Idol?

How would you like Victoria Beckham replacing Paula Abdul in American Idol? What??!! Why not, eh?

No, Victoria was only stepping in to fill the vacant space left by Paula's departure for last weekend's first auditions in Denver.

They are still looking for a permanent judge as reports have it that Paula Abdul will not be coming back but instead be joining a rival show, So You Think You Can Dance.

She has not been approached to be a permanent judge but there is a high possibility of her having a recurring role as either a guest judge or a choreographer.

Kara DioGuardi wore a black dress and said she was "in mourning" for her colleague.

"She was really the heart of the show, incredibly nurturing to the contestants," she said of Paula Abdul.

From Simon, "She was like my best buddy on the show," "And you only realise how much you miss somebody when you're not there. I am sad."

Globally, 208,155 people have been found to be infected by the virus and 1,688 people from 174 countries have died. These are not scary statistics as compared to other plagues in history but it still warrants vigilance to contain the virus which was reported yesterday to have claimed eight more victims in East Malaysia.

As of today, 6 more deaths, taking total to 32

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican advised the public to take preventive measures and heed the advice given by the Health Ministry.

He said those with symptoms of the disease or in the high-risk category should seek immediate treatment.

Individuals categorised as high risk are children aged below five, senior citizens aged 65 and above, pregnant women, asthmatics, those with chronic lung disease, dysfunctional organs, cardiovascular disease, liver problems, nerve problems, diabetes, obesity and weak immune system.

Those in these groups would be given antiviral treatment without requiring confirmation from lab tests, he said.

Further information on Influenza A (H1N1) can be obtained from the hotline at 03-8881-0200 and 03-8881-0300, which operates from 8am to 5.30pm, or by visiting the ministry’s website at http://www.moh.gov.my and http://h1n1.moh.gov.my.
