Friday Frolics - The Memory Test

Not the conventional memory test this one. Take the quiz to find out another aspect of your personality.

Happy Friday, you..

Your Memories Are Accurate

You have a lot of memories swirling around your head - some good, some bad, some mixed.

You aren't one to romanticize the past... or to minimize it. You see everything as it happened, and often those feelings are still raw.

While the past can seem a bit too alive at times, you're good at compartmentalizing it. You put memories away when you are done with them.

Because of your realistic take on the past, you make an awesome storyteller. You don't sugarcoat anything, and you have interesting perspective on events.

Friday Frolics - What Type of Fruit Are You?

Have we done a fruit quiz? Or perhaps not in recent memory so this week's personality quiz is about fruits.

Speaking of fruits, durians are back in season. Yay! I know, some of you would not even touch it with a 10ft pole! But hey, you don't know what you are missing..

It's still the early part of the durian season so don't expect it to be cheap as yet. Had my first taste of the fruit from Carrefour last week. Not bad. Wish I were in Penang though and in Balik Pulau at that.

Happy Friday everyone!

You Are an Apple

You are strong, powerful, and even a bit stubborn at times.

You have enough strength to help those around you in trouble.

You are adventurous and charming. Many people are drawn to you.

You love life, and you enjoy traveling the world. You enjoy fine food, art, and culture.

People have accused you of being a snob, but that's not accurate.

You do enjoy the best things in life. Unlike snobs, you truly appreciate quality... not just pretend to.

How to choose an Audio Mixer

If you are in the music business and are in the market for an audio mixer, have I got a source to help you along.

However if you are new but would like to get to know more about it, the audio mixer, or mixing console as it’s sometimes called, combines audio signals, processes them, then routes them to wherever they need to go.

Of course, nowadays, with technology advancement at what it is, many different devices offer some mixing capabilities, for example, tablets and smart phones teamed with the right apps and interfaces can perform some mixing functions. And all DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software includes mixing capabilities.

But for performing musicians and home studio owners, nothing beats the real hardware audio mixer with its knobs, faders and buttons, etc. Here's a site where you can find information on audio mixers including audio mixer reviews to help you choose the audio mixer that meets your need.

TripAdvisor's Pick of 10 Spectacular Statues

Hey, whaddaya know, the 42.7 metre (140-ft) statue of Lord Murugan made it into TripAdvisor's 10 spectacular statues around the world.

Having taken 3 years to construct, it is the tallest Lord Murugan statue in the world, located at the foot of Batu Caves, a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples. 272 concrete steps will lead you up to the caves.

Strange that I always associate Batu Caves as a KL attraction but actually it is located on the outskirts of the city in the state of Selangor some 13 kilometres (8 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur.

Batu Caves is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.

If you are a tourist and don't mind crowds, best time to visit Batu Caves is during Thaipusam where thousands throng this holy place of worship where you will get the chance to see first-hand Hindu devotees carrying kavadis or metal carriages or structures of milk for offering. Some devotees will have skewers pierced through their body or even their tongue. This is a ritual of repentance, sometimes thanks. Priests attend to the kavadi bearers. Consecrated ash is sprinkled over the hooks and skewers piercing the devotees' flesh before they are removed. No blood is shed during the piercing and removal.

But I digress, making TripAdvisor's list of 10 include

The Big Buddha also known as the Tian Tan Buddha in Lantau, Hong Kong.

As well as this bronzed statue of the Sakyamuni Buddha, also in Hong Kong.

Guan Yin at Nanshan Temple – Sanya, China

‘The Motherland Calls’ Sculpture – Volgograd, Russia
This 87m statue is the tallest non-religious statue of a woman in the world.

The Kelpies at The Helix – Falkirk, Scotland
The Kelpies are 30m high horse-head sculptures that are a tribute to the horse-powered heritage of Scotland.

Anonymus Szobor – Budapest, Hungary

This eerie statue of what looks like the Grim Reaper is supposed to be good for those who want to be better at creative writing. Word has it that you need to touch the fountain pen he is holding for that to happen.

Also making the list is Singapore's 37m Sentosa Merlion at Sentosa Island - not to be confused with the original statue found in the centre of Singapore.

You can view the others here at TripAdvisor’s 10 spectacular statues on Star2.com

Friday Frolics - What Energizes You?

Oh, the rain comes early today in Kuala Lumpur. It's raining now as I'm writing this. In our tropical climate, rain is just the thing we need to cool the heat which can sometimes be quite unbearable. Rain makes for richer greenery and lovelier blooms, I want to think that.

Though I'd vote for sunshine everyday, too much of a good thing could be the other extreme. No? But one thing is for sure for me, a sunny day sure is an automatic pick-me-up. The other one is beauty, but who isn't affected by beauty, you tell me, which incidentally brings us to this week's personality quiz that reveals that beauty energizes me.

Happy Friday, everyone wherever you are! Take the quiz to see what energizes you. Go on..

Beauty Energizes You

You see the world as a delightful and magical place. And there is something beautiful around every corner.

You can find many types of beauty in this world, but it brings you down to be around ugliness and messiness of any sort.

Simply freshening things up makes you feel more alive. You like a gorgeous view, fresh flowers, or even a well organized desk.

At core, you are an idealist, and beauty is just one way of representing our ideals. It inspires you to see life at its best.

If you missed last week's quiz: The House Test

Friday Frolics - The House Test

Interesting quiz this week's. It makes you think a little, the questions, I mean. Pretty much true about yours truly except for that bit about "buying local". On the contrary, I'm all for buying local and totally in support of growing the local economy, believe me.

Take the quiz and see what the results say about you.

Over here in KL, we are seeing really blue skies and bright sunshine today. We had some showers the past few afternoons which probably explains the sunshine and the blue skies. I've been thinking about vising the pair of Panda bears in the National Zoo, maybe I'll do just that today. One other, no, two other KL attractions that are on my list of 'places re-visit in KL' are the KL Bird Park and the Orchid Garden just across the road from the KL Bird Park. We'll see what happens.

You, have a lovely day. With a 4-day weekend, some of us would already be off for a short holiday somewhere.

Happy Friday!
Happy Labour Day and Happy Wesak Day (Sunday, May 3).

What the House Test Says About You

You are happy with who you are, and you don't have an inflated sense of self importance. You do your own thing quietly. You don't take up a lot of space.

You can't stand community oriented people and annoying "buy local" campaigns. You prefer to live the best life possible, and that doesn't really involve many other people.

You are creative, expressive, and bright. You are always in the middle of some amazing project.

You take good care of your physical appearance. You dress well, stay in shape, and do your best to look great.

You are moved by the most simple of things. You can find pleasure from a small, perfect moment.
