Cigarette prices to go up tomorrow

If you are a smoker, expect to pay more for your ciggies as cigarette prices are expected to go up tomorrow by 70 sen for a pack of 20 sticks making the increase one of the highest in recent history, previous hikes being between 10 and 30 sen.

Most 20-stick packs, which is currently sold at RM9.30, will cost RM10. Packs of high-grade cigarettes are expected to cost as much as RM14. Price hikes could be one of the reasons people quit smoking and it has been predicted that the price hike would cause cigarette sales to drop by 10%.

  5. I think smokers will continue to smoke but those who are not very addicted to it yet may consider stopping hopefully : )

  6. Even I think, this won't give any effect to those who are a chain smoker or you may say who are addicted, they will surely not stop themselves but those who are not addicted they might stop it...

  7. Good for you, Lina.

Bananaz, true what you said. For some, it's hard to kick the habit.

Tekkaus, it's a matter of choice and affordability, of course.

  8. SK, I think it's easier to implement smoking rules when the building is owned by the company. It's harder when it's a general office complex where the units are being occupied by different tenants. Still, I believe it can be done.

Foong, yep, the freedom to choose.

  10. Such a bad news for the chain smokers in Kuala Lumpur. But keeping pace with the recent price hike, it was obvious. Let us hope that this decision will be fruitful in bringing down the no. of smokers in the city.
