Collectibles, Vintage clothing and Military coins at Amcorp Mall flea market

Collectibles - a spectrum that covers stuff so far and wide. I know someone who has a vast collection of old-style irons, remember those for pressing clothes and that grow you arm muscles and use charcoal? I never did ask where he keeps them. I believe he still has them all.

Talk about irons, a girlfriend who is into vintage clothing asked the other day if I'd like to go with her to the Amcorp Mall flea market this weekend. Maybe tomorrow. Who knows, lots of things happening in her schedule.

She's also planning to check out old coins and currencies for her boyfriend, perhaps maybe to snag a nice military coin or two to add to his already-extensive collection. Looking at the coins here, I'd say that should be an interesting hobby.

US coins for sale at the Amcorp Mall flea market

A planned outing to the flea market at Amcorp Mall yesterday had to be called off. Something came up that my girlfriend had to take care of.

It's been quite a while since our last visit to the flea market. In KL or rather the Klang Valley, the flea market at Amcorp Mall is the most true-to-the-word flea market if one is looking for knick-knacks and collectibles of times past. For coin-collectors, there is a wide choice to choose from from the many stalls dealing in coins, including US coins for sale among others. If you are looking for Malaysian coins from as far back as the Straits Settlement era, they are also available.

Sprawled over several floors, Amcorp Mall's flea market is a good place to start if you are looking for antiques and collectibles.

Flea market and Auction at AmCorp Mall

I was at the AmCorp mall one weekend some years back and it so happened they were also having the auction. I believe it is held once a month and that weekend was it. That was the first time I ever witnessed an auction and was naturally interested enough to stay on and watch.

The stuff that went on auction was amazing. Even old ashtrays were quickly snapped up. They probably need a cigar auction to complement sale of ashtrays. Auctions sure provide a whole new meaning to old things, don't you think? Here's a little trivia. According to U.S. customs laws, antique is defined as 100 years before date of purchase but in the case of automobiles, it's approximately 25 years old or more.

Riding boots

I find garage sales just as interesting as flea markets. You never know what unusual items you will find there.

The other day, a girlfriend and I went to a garage sale because she wanted a couple of bedside lamps. This expat family was having the garage sale because they'll be going home to the US after spending a good five years here in Malaysia. They sure have accumulated many things looking at what they've put up for sale. No bedside lamps though but two pairs of riding boots were among the collection of furniture, clothes, books and magazines, crockery and cutlery, sports equipment and so forth.

Alaska Saturday Market

The Saturday Market in Alaska is a perfect opportunity for the entire family to go on a day trip! I just set my alarm system that I got from www.home-alarm-systems.com and head down the road a couple miles to enjoy the day. In Alaska we don't really have flea markets, but the Saturday Market is definitely the closest thing. Regardless of the season, rain or shine, snow or sleet, this market will always be in effect on Saturday.

The Saturday Market may be the only event that brings people from all over Alaska to Anchorage every weekend. This Market allows people to sell anything from food to clothing, makeup to animals, advice, dating services, and anything else you can think of. The majority of the major businesses will even have some type of stand to sell things or even try to hire new employees.

Last week my fiances brother invited us to go with him to the Saturday Market where he was selling homemade cookies. This is a fine example of why I love this place so much. He made a few hundred dollars in a couple of hours simply selling home-baked cookies! The cost of a booth is relatively cheap, so he made a bargain.

I go here every week with my fiance, and sometimes with my family because I can always find something wonderful. The market is perfect for people seeking a special gift, fine cuisine, or great entertainment.

Flea Markets and Breeches

A girlfriend jokingly suggested that I should seriously consider setting up a stall at a flea market selling my clothes. Ouch! That's from me having to part with my clothes and from the closet, bursting at the hinges. LOL!

Okay, jokes aside. Have you been to a flea market or when's the last time you were at a flea market. I love flea markets not so much the actual shopping but the sight of so many little long-forgotten stuff (curios and all) that if not for the flea market, would otherwise have been stashed away somewhere collecting dust for another decade or so. Hmm.. I wonder if breeches are also available.

If you are interested in going to a flea market when in Kuala Lumpur, one at the Amcorp Mall and the other at Mont Kiara are the two I'd recommend. They are open on Saturdays and Sundays.
