Container Hotel at Jalan Delima - Kuala Lumpur

A young relative once remarked that she has no qualms about living in a container, the type that is used for shipping. Now that's a pretty radical thought. I was taken aback.

It is not a new thing that shipping containers are being used for other purposes besides containing goods for shipping. Over here, it is common to see shipping containers being used as site offices at construction sites - affix an airconditioning unit, furnish it with relevant office furniture, and you are ready for business.

Though it's not a new concept and it's being used overseas, a container hotel has come to town, the very first in Malaysia right here in Kuala Lumpur.

This is Container Hotel.

The Container Hotel has a row of two 6.1m containers stacked up one on top of each other. The hotel sitting on a 465 sq m site (5,000 sq ft) with a built-up space of 279 sq m (3,000 sq ft) has rooms that come in three sizes – Outgoing, Adventure and Conservative.

Outgoing room, priced at RM80 (USD25) per night, comes with single beds arranged dormitory-style.

Adventure room at RM120 (USD37), features a super single mattress in a cave-like container.

A Conservative room comes with a twin-sized bed and is priced at RM200 (USD62) per night.

Container Hotel is located at Jalan Delima (opposite Prince Court Medical Centre), a walking distance to the Bukit Bintang shopping and entertainment district in the city centre.

The article in The Star doesn't tell much about the hotel facilities except about the rooms, and that the hotel received its first booking from a Japanese tourist, while a wedding dinner will be held there in October.

However, I found more information and pictures from Nizamsculpture Studio the design company that has been commissioned to custom-design the security guard post and oil drum signage of the hotel.

You can't miss the Container Hotel. It has this Pink Tank onsite.

This hospitality line is the new venture of Chatime which integrated the Chatime's 100th store with Container Hotel.

Interesting hotel which I'll be checking out soon. Meantime, let's take a video tour of the hotel..

  6. Hello Shuwah, that's easy. The Container Hotel is located at Jalan Bukit Bintang which is nearer Jalan Tun Razak (rather than at the other end that meets Jalan Pudu). In fact Jalan Delima runs parallel with Jalan Tun Razak. To make it easier, Jalan Delima is the road that's opposite Prince Court Medical Centre - see Google map above - which is the pink patch at 1 o'clock.

The other landmark is the Royal Selangor Golf Club which is nearby across the road along Jalan Tun Razak. Hope this is helpful. Thanks for stopping by.
