IKEA Trending 2013 capsule collection of limited edition products

Fans of IKEA will have something to look forward to in September when the largest furniture retailer in the world launches a capsule collection of limited edition furniture and houseware products rolling out starting September 27.

The collection under the name, Trendig 2013, unites Asian cultural influences with the best of Scandinavian design.  This is the first time IKEA launches such a capsule collection of limited edition furniture and houseware products.

The limited edition collection will include crockery, furniture, textiles and table accessories including but not limited to trays and placemats.

By the way, ever wondered what does the name IKEA stand for?

The acronym IKEA is made up of the initials of the founder's name (Ingvar Kamprad) plus those of Elmtaryd, the family farm where he was born, and the nearby village Agunnaryd.

Ingvar Kamprad was only 17 when he founded the company in 1943 in Sweden. He is listed as one of the world's richest people in 2013.

Chinese flock to IKEA to escape heatwave

The day started out this morning with bright sunshine and the promise of yet another hot day but alas, it's overcast now and even threatening to rain. In some parts of the peninsula, we are seeing moderate PSI readings and some smog in the air so some rain might be good.

The PSI readings from the Department of Environment website as as the chart below. Blue denotes good PSI reading of between 0-50 while green is Moderate for between 51-100.  Kuala Lumpur is a combination of both blue and green.

Even though Malaysia is in the tropics, our temperatures seldom go beyond 40degC as what has been experienced in other non-tropical countries. I read with alarm and some amusement the other day about the heatwave in China, Beijing to be exact and that it was so unbearable but Beijing people flock to IKEA to escape the heatwave with some even falling asleep on their beds! I kid you not! Photos below are proof enough. Perhaps a little amusing..?

IKEA Vouchers to be Won

There is only one IKEA outlet here in KL, probably the only one in the whole of Malaysia. On any given weekend, IKEA is packed with shoppers, window-shoppers, diners who love the curry puffs and/or food at their inhouse restaurant or those who simply enjoy an air-cond place to hang out other than the one at home. Bottomline, (almost) everyone loves IKEA, possibly to a fault. Guilty here too..

What do we love about IKEA? Probably every conceivable reason under the sun. Wish you have some spare cash to splurge a little perhaps? Now you may have that chance. IKEA Malaysia is running a design competition and you may be the lucky recipient of a cool $2000 to spend as you please. Now. how about that?! Good luck!

Meanwhile, I may be off to Jaya Jusco for their Member J Card Day.

I'm A Contemporary Furniture Kind of Person

I was browsing through a home decoration magazine the other day and thought about IKEA which reminds me I haven't received a copy of IKEA's 2010 catalogue. Have you?

The IKEA catalogue is fabulous, chockful of furnishing trends and exciting new ideas. I like their wide selection of contemporary furniture which includes some really wonderful pieces for one to create any desired home environment.

Btw, did you know that the very first IKEA catalogue was published in Sweden in 1951 and is still published annually and that IKEA catalogue is translated into 27 different languages and is distributed to homes around the world between August and September every year which I haven't received mine, of course.
