Effects of the South-West Monsoon - Hot, Hot Weather

It's nice to wake up in the morning to the prospect of sunshine and blue skies but it is another thing to have the heat bearing down with such intensity that you feel like jumping into a pool of soothing cool water or doing what the kids at Sunway Lagoon are doing in the picture below.

Here in the Klang Valley, we are experiencing temperatures of between 30 to 34degC but 35degC is not unusual currently. It can get quite unbearable if you are not in an air-conditioned place.

April and May are usually the hottest months and the weather has become drier with the change in wind direction during the inter-monsoon season last month. We are beginning to experience the South-West monsoon which starts from mid-May and stretches right up to September. This period usually brings with it a dry spell with high humidity, occasional rain and thunderstorms. Hopefully, we will not have to contend with bad air quality too from the open-burning of land-clearing.

How is the weather at your side of the world?

  1. I thought south-west monsoon should mean more rain to the West Coast?

  2. I don't want to think about it!

In my area it was only 18 degrees but it was foggy all day and felt like it was in the upper twenties thanks to the humidity.

  3. I thought Msia is about 28 - 33C the most. 35 is a bit too hot plus it's humid over there. Doesn't it feel yucky? The earth must have moved a bit closer to the sun :o)

It's about right so far here, at 20C.

  6. I want the rain too! I don't care if the rain causes traffic jams, I can't stand the heat. I'm getting headaches from the heat and feeling not good.

  14. For the past two decades South West Monsoon has not brought heavy rains in South India. In 1980s it had been very nice with frequent rains and winds. Global warming has changed the health of monsoon.
