R.I.P. Donna Summer (December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012)

Saw on CNN last night that Donna Summer has died - Thursday morning from cancer. She was surrounded by her family in Florida. Donna Summer was one of the most influential singers of the disco era. She was 63.

She is survived by her husband, singer and producer Bruce Sudano, their daughters, Brooklyn and Amanda and Summer's daughter, Mimi, from a previous marriage.

In her singing career, Donna Summer won five Grammys, videos below:

Another one of her hits, She Works Hard For The Money. This song was based on a true-to-life experience. Summer was in Chasen's restaurant in LA. She went to the bathroom & saw the attendant taking a nap with a small TV. Donna startled her & the woman told Donna she worked 2 jobs and was really tired. Donna thought 'Wow she really works hard for her money." That night Summer wrote the song in 20 minutes. The bathroom attendant is on the back of the album cover. 1st line of song says her name."Onetta there in the corner stands" - from SongFactsDotCom (Wikipedia)
