Visa-exemption for short-term visit to Japan soon

Preparation for travel to Japan for Malaysians will soon be a step easier as Malaysians will soon be exempted from visas for short-term visits.

The Japan Embassy in Malaysia said yesterday the process is currently under preparation and will be implemented in the near future. The embassy is expected to announce the details on Monday, so watch out for updates on this space.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's government approved on Tuesday the exemption of visas for short-term tourists from Malaysia and Thailand, according to Japanese media.

In a bid to boost Japan's tourism industry, the country is also set to allow multiple-entry visas for visitors from the Philippines and Vietnam.

Japan-bound travellers from Malaysia and Thailand are currently issued multiple-entry visas enabling holders to enter Japan as often as they want during the validity period.
