2012 Rainforest World Music Festival - July 13 to 15, 2012, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

This is the weekend where the jungles of Borneo come alive with song and dance.

Yes, it is the time again for the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), this year in its 15th year. Just as we speak, the music festival is already in full swing.

The Rainforest World Music Festival, considered one of the best outdoor world music festivals in the world, is an annual three-day music festival celebrating the diversity of world music.

It is held in Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia, and includes daytime music workshops, jamming sessions with artistes and musicians, cultural displays, craft displays, food stalls, and main-stage evening concerts. Last year's event had an audience of more than 20,000.

A wide range of performances are featured in this music festival from traditional music, to world fusion and contemporary world music. The festival emphasizes the use of traditional acoustic world instruments, although electric accompaniment instruments are common. Invited performers come from near and far - from Sarawak, other provinces of Malaysia, and countries near and far including Palestine, Czech Republic, Mongolia, Brazil.
This year's performers include

- Le Trio Joubran, three brothers from Palestine, musicians sought after worldwide
- HATA, a Pan-Asian world music group
- THE STRING SISTERS - Six of the world’s leading female Celtic violinists backed by an all male rhythm section
- Mamadou Diabate from Mali / Burkina Faso
- Khusugtun from Mongolia
- Local groups including Diplomats Of Drum, Rhythm of Borneo and others.

All in, there will be twelve international and six Malaysian acts. For more information, you can visit RWMF Performers 2012.
