Happy New Year 2013 Celebrations in Kuala Lumpur and elsewhere

Just like in other parts of the world, Malaysians around the country welcomed the New Year with a big bang, cramming the streets and the hotspots to ring in the new year.

In Kuala Lumpur in Dataran Merdeka (Merdeka Square), hundreds of thousands thronged the square which was lit up in a multitude of colours to welcome the New Year.

At the stroke of midnight, a 10-minute fireworks show lit up the night sky as revellers danced in celebration.

At Petronas Twin Towers, revellers were treated to fireworks at the stroke of midnight.

    1. Without a doubt! KL is getting more and more happening by the year. LRT operated until 2am in the morning. I remember going into the city one year and had to park miles away from the Bukit Bintang area.

    1. Could have been more fun doing that than getting stuck in traffic downtown. You win some, you lose some, I guess..

  3. No more interested to be 'exposed' at this happening. Friend of mine had a nightmare once in Penang Gurney Drive, car damaged by people stomping on fender and his wife & two daughters had a hellish time when the crowd turned ugly rocking his car left and right like a rocking chair. Stayed at home with last minute posting until a few minutes before midnight.

    1. That can be a scary experience for anybody. Crowd control can be a problem. Yeah, best to avoid crowds unless one can be quick enough to leave the area when something goes out of control.

  4. Wanted to take firework pictures, but in the end didn't make it. Was concerned of the crowd...

    1. Aww..

I think there are places to take pictures of fireworks around KLCC without being too near the Petronas Twin Towers. Good to do a little survey for next year?
