Did You Know.....?

I am sure you have read these from the 'Did You Know' series.

1. Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump.
2. Statistically, people are more afraid of spiders than they are of dying.
3. Butterflies taste with their feet.
4. Mosquitoes have teeth.
5. The word "cemetery" comes from the Greek "koimetirion" which means dormitory.
6. Starfish have no brains.
7. Humans and Dolphins are the only animals that have sex for pleasure.
8. A pig’s orgasm lasts 30 mins!!

You breezed through them without much thought, didn't you? Now read them again below.

What did you learn from the above? I'm sure you'll agree that pictures are amazing in that they give you a better perspective on things. Wouldn't you say a pig has more fun than a starfish? Enjoy your ham sandwich.

Okay, enuff of that sexy thing. More findings...

- During historic civil wars, when troops returned without any casualties, a writing was put up so all can see which read "0 Killed". From here we get the expression "O.K." which means all is good.

- When the English settlers landed in Australia, they noticed a strange animal that jumped extremely high and far. They asked the aboriginal people using body language and signs trying to ask them about this animal. They responded with  ’’Kan Ghu Ru’’ the english then adopted the word kangaroo. What the aboriginal people were really trying to say was "we don’t understand you", "Kan Ghu Ru".

Getting bored? Alright, just one last one.

- In ancient England, people could not have sex without consent from the King.
When people wanted to have a child, they had to solicit permission from the monarchy, in turn they would be supplied a plaque to hang on their door when they had sexual relations.

The plaque read … "Fornication Under Consent of the King" (F.U.C.K.).
This is the origin of the word. Now you know.

One last. I promise.

Admit it! You did too. lol

There seems to be considerable disagreement about this.

According to other sources I've seen (and have been quoted by others including the rock band Van Halen), fornicators (i.e. people who had sex before marriage) in some parts of colonial America were punished by being locked in stocks carrying a sign saying, "For Using Carnal Knowledge" (F.U.C.K.), hence the word.

On the other hand, according to a copy of Webster's Dictionary that I used to have, both the word and its German equivalent, ficken, come from the Dutch fokken, which means "to penetrate".

Don't believe everything you read. It may be fokkt up.

  3. LB, the Kangaroo was new to me too. Being a starfish is good, sometimes.

MM, thanks for the reminder. Info on the Net can be quite fokkt/fogged up, alright.

In the old days in China, people caught using carnal knowledge outside of marriage were drowned in pig cages with the villagers witnessing the punishment. Cruel!
