Friday Frolics - What Asian Country Should You Visit?

I have a couple of friends who make it a point to spend a big part of Chinese New Year celebration yearly overseas. They normally start their trip a few days before the first day and come back after two weeks or so. I wonder where they are headed to this year.

I was told that during the Chinese New Year period, it is best not to visit any place where Chinese New Year is celebrated on a large scale, meaning that the place is predominantly Chinese. This is because you may have difficulty finding decent food. I wonder if this is true.

I have always been fascinated by China and her history but the thought of a visit to China used to turn me off after hearing about having to bring an umbrella to the toilet if one were to be in a rural area. You heard that too? I am sure the scenario is different these days after China hosted the recent summer Olympics, which is just as well as this quiz prompted that I should visit China based on what I look for in a travel. Check out which Asian city you should visit if you are planning a visit.

You Should Travel to China

China can satisfy your craving for many travel opportunities in one trip.

You can hang out in modern Shanghai, walk along the great wall, or visit sacred mountains.

    You Should Travel to India

You're a passionate, gusty traveler - and India's gritty urban centers won't scare you away.
Maybe you'll take in the Taj Mahal, eat the best curry of your life, or attend a huge street festival.

I don't mind visiting Taj Mahal but not really a big fan of curries..hehhe

  2. Mine is the same as MBL - India. But that's not what I had in mind though I don't mind going there. I prefer China, and I love Thailand.

  8. I should go to Thailand!

You may enjoy getting spiritual at a Buddhist retreat...
Or just feasting on a ton of cheap and amazing Thai food.

That sounds great, but the last time I had Thai food (which was wonderful!) I got terrible heartburn that lasted for three days afterward. I'd probably better stick with sashimi and curry.

  9. MBL, yeah, Taj Mahal - it's so synonymous with India, isn't it?

Foong, China is a good place to visit now before the place becomes too saturated with commercialism or maybe it is already, eh?

Hi Bonnie, thank you so much. May the new year of the Ox bring you all the things you wish for.

  10. PP, Happy New Year to you! I've always been fascinated with Japan - it's culture and beauty. And I am glad there is PandaB and MM and Lrong to keep us updated.

Hi Lrong, good to have you visit again. Happy New Year to you.

For one who enjoys diving, an island with diving facilities would be just great, eh?

  11. Tekkaus, Gong Xi Fa Cai to you. And where is my angpow?

MM, yeah, Thai food can be rather spicy and I am not for too spicy food. I like their Tom Yam soup but the spiciness can be a deterrent.

  13. Hey QC, thanks so much for the tip. Golden week would be May 1st onwards, am I right?

I suppose the atmosphere during Chinese New Year is merrier in small towns vs the city as most people would have 'balik kampong' (gone back to hometown) to celebrate this auspicious once-a-year occasion.

I see you have got the travel bug now, eh? Where to next?

You know, I've travelled a lot lately. Got you there. What I meant is on tv. I've been to The Hague in Holland, London and south-west of Italy - Sorento and a few other surrounding towns. Italy is indeed beautiful.
