Lahad Datu situation update - Mar 11

Today is Day 7 of Ops Daulat, the assault operation on the foreign terrorists who first landed on Lahad Datu, eastern side of Sabah, on Feb 9. The image below is of Police commandos evacuating villagers to safety from Kampung Tanjung Labian in Lahad Datu yesterday.

The ongoing Ops Daulat to flush out Sulu gunmen in Tanjung Labian is still going on and will continue as there is no sign of them laying down their arms.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said, “We will only consider a ceasefire if the remaining gunmen surrender unconditionally."

Todate, 53 terrorists have been killed.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said The Sulu intruders should be tried according to Malaysian laws for brutally and inhumanely killing eight policemen.

"In the laws of war, intruders or members of the security forces cannot mutilate bodies like ripping off eyes, decapitating heads or cutting up bodies."

A group of villagers remaining at Tanjung Labian village near where security forces are on the offensive against Sulu gunmen fled the area after hearing four gunshots on Sunday (yesterday).

A media team encountered a man in black with a rifle on their way into the village. They hastily retreated from the area.
