Friday Frolics: How Cynical Are You?

This week's Friday Frolics is a quiz on Cynicism. How cynical are you?

Each time I think about this episode, I can't help laughing at how gullible I could be. One evening, at a traffic junction while waiting for the light to turn green, a scrawny man of about fifty approached me. I wound down my window to his plea for ten ringgit for taxi-fare to go home (outstation he said).

Ten ringgit, okay, I thought it's just ten ringgit, so I gave him. The light was still red and I saw him got on the bus that came along. I thought nothing of it until much later, suddenly, it hit me, "hey, that happened once before!" - the exact same spot, the same time of day, the same man, the same amount of money, the same getting on the bus. huh?!

The point of the story is, basically, I'm not a cynical person, so I believed his reason for needing that money, even though he might be taking me for a ride. Call me gullible, call me naive, whatever. That's me. But, you know something? I'd still give him the money if he comes around a third time. He probably needs it more than I do. Or perhaps it was I who owed him the money in a previous life. Nothing happens by chance.

So, back to where we started, how cynical are you?

You Are 0% Cynical

Cynical? Not even close! If anything, you're a bit naive.

Overall, you enjoy life and try not to be paranoid. Even if you've been burned before.

  1. waaa, you're 0%?

    I am:
    ***You Are 56% Cynical***

Yes, you are cynical, but more than anything, you're a realist.
You see what's screwed up in the world, but you also take time to remember what's right.

  2. I think I'm not real - as opposed to your 56%. I mean I don't exist in the flesh; like an (unfeeling) robot? lol

Or maybe I'm plain duh? Oh well...

  3. I'm surprised that my score was this low....

    ***You Are 40% Cynical***

Generally you give people the benefit of the doubt. But there are exceptions.
You buy into many of the things that mainstream society believes, but you're not anybody's fool.

Be careful Hapyysurfer, some people will try to get much more than 10 ringgit!

  4. PandaB, thanks for the heads-up. I need to be careful lest I lose more than 10 ringgit. Which reminds me, I was once approached by a lady at the gas station for directions and some money and innocently I pointed her to the nearest police station for help. She said nevermind and went her way. On hindsight, I must have been the female version of Mr Magoo. lol

  6. I wasn't as cynical as I thought I'd be - 36%! I was expecting something like 80 or something.

    0%? Wow, you would;
    Buying astronomy stocks,
    Believe all politicians,
    Believe every bragger,
    Believe all your news?

As the others have said, be careful ah!

    I think I know why I scored 0%.
    I don't buy astronomy stocks,
    I'm not politically-inclined,
    I stay away from braggers,
I don't pay attention to news. lol

Basically, I give people the benefit of the doubt, use what litle commonsense I have, and I've learned to switch off.

And I'll be careful too. Thank you.
