Tuxedos for Kids

Tuxedos not only look great on grown men, little boys look amazingly dashing and cute in them too.

A girlfriend's sister is getting married in September and they are making sure that little boys in the family will be in tuxes at the dinner reception to be held in a hotel in the city.

The thing is, it's not easy to buy tuxedos off the shelf here so they may have to resort to buying them online. I think they have shortlisted a number of online stores but kids tuxedos from this website seem to have more choices both in designs and colours.

Chinese Almanac - Good Day for a Wedding

The Chinese Almanac - once available in every traditional Chinese home is now hardly visible in the home.  This reference book is sort of a go-to source before the family embarks on a major activity such as a wedding, an engagement, house-moving, shop-opening, making a trip, prayer-altar cleaning, even going for a haircut.

For non-believers, this could be pure superstition but for those who believe, the Chinese community primarily, this is a way of life, part of Feng Shui as practised by the Chinese for thousands of years. A culture, if you will.

It is believed that executing something on an auspicious day can mean reaping positive results while doing something major on an inauspicious day can mean disaster as a consequence.

I came across Lilian Too's calendar of Good Days to Wed in 2013. They at WOFS (World of Feng Shui) have investigated the Tung Shu/Tung Sheng (Chinese Almanac) to identify the most auspicious days to get married, as well as unfavourable days which must to be avoided at all costs.

Below is sample for July. You can view the rest of the pre-calculated auspicious wedding days of the year on to Good Days To Wed on the WOFS website.

A little about a Malay wedding

In the office, we can easily xerox this and xerox that. Funny, how a company name evolved into a verb, an action we perform almost instinctively whenever we need a copy made. Strangely, we even use the term on a non-Xerox duplicating machine!

Great inventions like the Xerox machine has added convenience to our life. I was at a Malay wedding the other day and was admiring the general setup. Blue was the theme colour including the bride and the groom's attire. So much care and effort was put in from the wedding dais to the wedding favours down to the table setting - a pretty basket of flowers at each table, beautiful table cloth including table skirt held up neatly by velcro. Yes, velcro is one of life's modern conveniences. Did you know that it was invented in 1948?

But I digressed.  Back to the wedding.. the catered food was delicious. Nowadays, having catered food is the norm at Malay weddings which leaves valuable time for the family to look into other aspects of the preparation.  Not only was the food catered, the whole ensemble of the wedding set up had been outsourced to a wedding planner.  Times have changed.

For wedding favours, we came away with a traditional hard-boiled egg in a pretty wire-basket of blue and gold. These two weeks being school-holidays, we may be seeing more weddings in the offing.

Sweet Dreams of Annie Lennox

Now here's a familiar name spotted as I was going through The Star today. The article says Pop diva Annie Lennox weds for third time.

It says:
LONDON: Scottish singer-songwriter Annie Lennox has married for the third time, her spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

The former Eurythmics star, 57, wed American gynaecologist Mitch Besser on Saturday in London.

The ceremony was reportedly onboard a boat on the River Thames in a ceremony attended by Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth and comedienne Ruby Wax.

Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics gave us some of the best 80s music. Sweet Dreams stands out and remains a classic and a favorite of mine to this day. Yes, a wedding (a third one at that!) calls for a celebration and what better way to celebrate than listening to Sweet Dreams again. The 80s, some say the best, music-wise.

Annie Lennox has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide with the Eurythmics and as a solo artist, winning a string of awards including four Grammys and an Oscar for a song that appeared on the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack.

She performed at the closing ceremony for the London Olympics last month, as well as the star-studded concert outside Buckingham Palace in June marking Queen Elizabeth II's 60th year on the throne. -AFP

Wedding Bells are Ringing

After the busy first month of the Lunar calendar, weddings are coming back into the routine. The second lunar month is a good month for weddings along with a few other auspicious months of the year for the Chinese community.

Over the weekend, I saw a number of wedding entourages. Though Spring may be in the air in the northern hemisphere, over here, it's wedding bells are ringing again. Being so, jewellers and goldsmith shops here would have new stocks of wedding bands and other jewellery. One would have more choices if one is looking for a diamond engagement ring or a wedding band, for instance.

Hong Kong TVB Actress Toby Leung and Aaron Wong Wed

Everyone loves a love story - especially when it leads to a wedding. A little Hong Kong celebrity trivia here.

Toby, the daughter of famous TVB producer, Tommy Leung, married her boyfriend, Aaron Wong, a businessman, last month. The newlyweds are set to hold their wedding banquet at InterContinental Hong Kong on Tuesday night, tonight, I suppose.

Toby Leung cries at hubby's love declaration. The 28-year-old recalled: "I'm very touched when he told me that, 'it's gotta be you'! At that moment I feel like I'm the happiest person in the world!"

Toby Leung officially married her boyfriend, Aaron Wong, on Nov 24.

The couple had earlier flown to Shanghai and Taiwan to take their wedding photographs. Below are three among the Wedding photos of Toby Leung released.

Toby, 28, first entered the music industry in 2004, and was a member of the disbanded Girls' Only Dormitory group. She later joined TVB and was given supporting roles in TV series.

Toby now owns a wedding planner company in Hong Kong and has plans to open a branch in Taiwan next year, and is working with a company to explore the market in China.

Aaron is a businessman specialising in luxury home investments. At only 32, he has earned the nickname of "The Property Investment King" and has assets estimated at HK$200mil (RM79.6mil).

Toby Leung's star-studded wedding

The bridesmaids included Charmaine Sheh, Janet Chow, Angela Tong, Natalie Tong, Florence Kwok, Margaret Chung and more.

Guests at the 53-table wedding banquet at InterContinental Hong Kong Hotel included TVB Chairwoman Mona Fong, new boss Chan Kwok Keung, Norman Leung, Stephen Chan and other executives. Toby’s wedding was surely a star-studded banquet as many artistes attended including: Alan Tam, Nick Cheung, Louis Koo, Anita Yuen, Christine Ng, Michael Miu, Jamie Chik, Felix Wong, Nat Chan, Roger Kwok, Cindy Au, Michael Tse, Fala Chen, Raymond Lam, Charmaine Sheh, Tavia Yeung, Kate Tsui, Edwin Siu, Ron Ng, Kevin Cheng, Niki Chow, Amigo Chiu, Natalie Tong, Sharon Chan, Joyce Tang, Derek Kwok, Timmy Hung and many more. It was much more star-studded than the TVB Anniversary!

Tying the knot on the KL monorail

Yesterday, there was a wedding down the road. The groom's entourage was honking as they were approaching the bride's home.

It's that time of the year for marriages again. Generally, the 8th lunar month is an auspicious month for marriages, engagements, house-moving and anything major though most traditional Chinese folks would also consult the Chinese Almanac or someone in the know on such matters to pick the auspicious date. The 8th month began on Aug 29 and will end on Sep 26.

Some people choose the most unlikely places to get married. I have read of people getting married underwater but what about getting married on the KL monorail? This couple in the video must be a first in Malaysia. Check it out..

The Day has finally arrived. Will you be among the forecasted 2 billion people watching the royal wedding today?

It must be wonderful to be in London right now. The city is all decked up with flags and buntings and everyone is in a party mood anticipating the big day. The atmosphere must be electric. People are already lining the streets and some are camping outside booking themselves a place for a better view of the royal couple. CNN showed Prince William out and about at a mall shaking hands with well-wishes at around 10pm and Kate earlier on arriving at the hotel she and her family would be staying.

For those of us who are too far away to get ourselves a souvenir item or two of the royal wedding, if it's any consolation for those of us who want a little momento of this big event, you could access or print yourself a copy of the Official Programme for the wedding.

The Official Programme for the wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton is now available for the public to download for free from the Official Royal Wedding website.

The Official Programme includes the full Order of Service (as used by guests in Westminster Abbey), a personal message of thanks from Prince William and Miss Middleton, and a photo of the Couple taken by photographer Mario Testino at the time of the Couple’s engagement. The Official Programme features Prince William’s recently updated Coat of Arms on the front cover and Catherine Middleton’s new Coat of Arms on the back cover.

The Order of Service includes full details about the processions, music, hymns, prayers and readings. The Wedding Service follows the Book of Common Prayer (Alternative Services: Series One). There will be one Lesson during the service, which the Couple have asked James Middleton to read.

The Official Programme will also be available for free electronically in three formats: as a page-turning PDF (using Flash) and an iBook compatible with Apple products, which can be downloaded from the Apple iBookstore. It is also available as an Adobe Acrobat PDF (you will need Adobe Reader to view the file)

On the wedding day, 150,000 copies of the programme will be sold by 60 Explorer Scouts and 80 Cadets (supervised by adults) for £2 per copy at locations in Green Park, Hyde Park, St James’s Park and Trafalgar Square. Profits from the sale of the Official Programme will go to benefit The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

A Royal Wedding next year - Prince William and Kate Middleton

Thirty years after the fairy-tale nuptials of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, though with an unhappy ending, Britain will finally have another big royal wedding: its dashing helicopter-pilot prince - second in line to the throne - will marry the lovely commoner who may someday become queen.
Prince William and girlfriend Kate Middleton have been sent congratulations from around the world after announcing their engagement. They have been together for eight years after meeting while students at St Andrews University, Fife.

The Queen said she was absolutely delighted for them both, while Prince Charles said he's thrilled and joked, "They've been practising long enough."

Their wedding will be held next spring or summer, revealed the couple, both 28. The prince proposed while on holiday in Kenya in October.

The engagement ring was his mother's, engagement ring, a distinctive sapphire and diamond engagement ring - a £30,000 ring consisting of 14 diamonds surrounding a sapphire. Jewellers say they have already had orders for copies of the engagement ring.
Bookmaker Paddy Power has made Saturday, 13 August 2011 the 3/1 favourite for the date of the royal wedding. Princess Diana married Prince Charles on 29 July 1981. Will Prince William and Kate Middleton choose the same date? Left to be seen..

Wedding Photo Albums

What do we do with all the photographs that we have taken for all the special occasions in our life? Chances are, they are saved in a pen-drive or still in our computer hard-disk while the hardcopy photographs are just filed away in a photo-album or still in a box awaiting sorting.

Have you heard of photobook albums? These are stylishly designed photo-album books of professionally printed photographs. These Premium Photobooks are aimed towards special occasions such as weddings, anniversaries, and others.  Wedding photo albums are a popular request.

Photoproductions is the only company in the UK to produce premium photobooks direct to the public, without them having to go through a photographer who will increase the cost.

The process is easy and can be done online. Say you already have your wedding photographs and would like to have the best ones put together into a Wedding photo album , something like in a storybook.

Go to Photoproductions.com and load in your photos, choose the desired photobook, professional designers will then create the interior, you review and approve the design. Any change can be adjusted before printing. After you click 'approve for print', printing and binding will begin followed by delivery of your beautifully completed Premium Photobook.

Malaysia's Polygamy Club

An article titled Al-Arqam making a comeback in The Star caught my attention the other day but I thought nothing of it. It's the government's concern.

After the religious movement was outlawed in 1994, there was very little news of the Al-Arqam movement. Apparently, it was still active though on a very low-profile level in Rawang, a suburban town a little off Kuala Lumpur. You could still recognise the members by their attire, especially the men with their beard and turban-like headwear.

Even though Muslims, they believe in polygamy. New York Times has a more interesting perspective about it - Here Come the Brides: Polygamy Club Woos Malaysia

Switching sex partners a hit with Singaporeans

SINGAPOREANS are flocking to a website to change sex partners, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The daily reported that so far, 49 couples had signed up at the website.

Among the categories available were men seeking women, women seeking men, and where same sex partners are available.

“The majority of those who signed up stressed that they were only looking for sex, not love,” reported the daily.

What is more astonishing is that those who signed up voluntarily left their contact details to allow interested parties to call them.

A check found that those who signed up were Singaporean Chinese in their 30s. Most of them are professionals.
