A dog tale

I'm phasing down for the year.....

A man was leaving a cafe with his morning coffee when he
noticed a most unusual funeral procession. A funeral coffin
was followed by a second one about 50 feet behind the first.
Behind the second coffin was a solitary man walking with a
black dog. Behind him was a queue of 200 men walking in
single line.

The man couldn't stand his curiosity. He approached the man
walking with the dog, "I am so sorry for your loss, and I
know now is a bad time to disturb you, but I've never seen
a funeral like this with so many of you walking in single line.

Whose funeral is it?"

The man replied, "Well, that first coffin is for my wife.
"The inquisitive man asked, "What happened to her?" The man
replied, "My dog attacked and killed her." He inquired further,

"Well, who is in the second coffin?" The man answered,
"My mother-in-law. She was trying to help my wife when the dog
attacked and killed her also."

A thoughtful moment of silence passes between the two men.

Then the first one asks in excitement "Can I borrow the dog?"

The man replied "Please join the queue..."

Source unknown and meant no disrespect to any canine species too.

  6. OMG, Momo is aka Pandabonium? Oops! Apologies, missed that.

Pandabonium, is there a special meaning to the name, Momo? You know, in Chinese, Cantonese to be exact, 'Momo' with the right inflection means 'hairy'. I'd say an apt name for your Momo, don't you think?

I am Momo. Related to Pandabonium, but a dog, not a Panda.

Momo is the Japanese word for "peach".

Be careful Robin, as Moody will tell you, I don't bite, but I do put dirty paw prints on pants. woof.

  8. I just read in the newspaper that, in Chinese tradition, people who are born in the Year of the Dog are believed to be bad luck, so Chinese companies are reluctant to hire them. Does that mean that the "dog year" is cursed?

Strange, then, that "dog days" in English tradition has a very good meaning.

  10. Momo, 'peach' is a lovely name. I like it.

MM, I believe there is no 'bad luck' animal. If ever there is one, a future mother-in-law would be wary of her son marrying a Tiger wife if her son is a goat, for instance.

This is because in real life, tigers eat or kill goats so this match would be perceived as inauspicious for obvious reasons. Of course, only mothers are concerned but if two people are in love, nothing can stop them, I guess.

This is a belief in the old days probably an old wife's tale. Perhaps others would have a better perspective.

Also, a year ahead whether good or bad is dependent on one's date and year of birth. Everyone's fortune or luck changes from year to year. Remember the Omikuji that Pandabonium talked about? Well, the Chinese use these to obtain a prediction of one's fortune in the coming year. These slips can only be obtained from temples. A temple aide is able to decipher the meaning of the contents.

louyau-mike, I thank you for the motivation. As what they say, "stay tuned". haha...

FH2o, careful there. New year must think of new tactics as in new art of war mah. hehehe..

  12. I'm not sure which year I was born in. If you use the Chinese calendar, I was born in the year of the Dragon. If you use the Western calendar, than it's the year of the Snake. That always causes arguments here in Japan, since they aren't absolutely sure which calendar to use for such things.

    Either way, I guess I'm a cold-blooded reptile, right?

Hey, YD, the boar is a survivor, and it is also one of very few animals that solves problems by pausing and thinking them through. (Hey, I'm trying to be optimistic before the flood of stereotypes, okay?)

  13. MM, this animal sign Zodiac only applies in the Chinese calendar so if it says you were born in the year of the Dragon, then you are a Dragon. The Chinese or Lunar calendar is a tricky one as day one of the year doesn't begin on Jan 1 as in the Roman calendar.

    You, cold-blooded? I don't think so. hehe......

Hey, YD, the boar is a survivor, and it is also one of very few animals that solves problems by pausing and thinking them through. -- Yeah, look where it landed the boar.....as bacon. wuahahaha.....

Sorry yd, I couldn't resist it. Actually, I think the boar is a lucky animal as the Chinese believe boar people usually lead good lives. There you go.
