I read the other day that South Australia is going through a terrible dry spell, in fact the worst in 1000 years. The picture I saw showed a pitiful state of affairs in the fields which were of yellow and brown. Their government is encouraging people to go up north where agriculture is possible.
While this part of the world is dry, other places in the northern hemisphere are seeing heavy rainfall. In Doha, Qatar, there was an unusually high level of rainfall. Doha is currently hosting the Asian Games and the bad weather caused some jeopardy to outdoor events.
Dubai was also affected by the bad weather. A friend who was on holiday was lucky enough to miss the flood as he departed the day the rains came. Below are a few pictures of the floor situation. I wonder if global warming is to be blamed for these extremes?
Definitely!! No more White Christmas! And what are we doing about it? Are we still driving our single person cars around merrily? Can't switch to alternative fuel still, cos it's too expensive? The world's climate is changing, maybe too slowly for some, but it will be a drastic change pretty soon! *grin*
ReplyDeleteWe can even see the climate change here in Malaysia. Hot days are hotter (fans won't do anymore) and when it rains, it really pours. In fact, it is doing just that now - 4:30pm. The sky is all dark and the cats and dogs are falling all over the place.
ReplyDeleteI think countries north of the equator ought to set up huge rain catchers and drainage ditches and run pipelines from them down to countries like Australia that are suffering from drought. You'd kill two birds with one stone that way.
ReplyDeleteOf course, there's no chance anything like that would ever happen. It would be far too benign.
MM, that's a brilliant idea! All the money that countries spend on nuclear weapons would do well to be used for projects like these - in aid of humanity instead of destroying humanity. We can only wish.
