I can never understand why names of roads need to be changed. What's wrong with the old ones? Here in Malaysia, many roads have had their names changed, supposedly to fit into the local context. There goes history. Apparently, the authorities do not care two hoots about history.
Below are two pictures of the same place in different eras. This road started out as Cross Street, then Jalan (means Road in Malay) Silang and now it's Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin - quite a mouthful, isn't it?
Then..
Totally different: Cross Street during the British colonial days.
Now..
Convenient spot: Metro buses drop off and pick up passengers at its stop in front of the Mydin hypermarket on Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin.
