Window-cleaning

The other day, I watched an episode on the travel channel where they showcased the most expensive hotel in the world, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. They showed how their windows were cleaned, the care they put to the job which reminded me of the care put to cleaning windows of the bulletproof glass type, especially if they are the acrylic type.

Acrylic bulletprrof windows need to be cleaned with non-ammonia-based cleaners and wiped with clean lint-free cloth or 100% cotton diaper material. Using ammonia-based cleaners will damage the acrylic and using dirty lint-free material will cause scratches.

  1. Maids in Singapore are falling to their deaths because their employers tell them to clean the windows. Very dangerous. These employers are telling the maids to do something which they themselves won't do.

  3. Mickell, thanks for sharing that. Yes, window-cleaning in highrise buildings could be a dangerous affair. I think some common-sense in anything should be exercised.

The window-cleaners of that hotel have been trained and they are being suspended by cables. Due to the height involved, they are mostly Gurkhas from Nepal as they are known to be able to withstand heights.

A friend and his wife just came back visiting that hotel. Dinner was more than RM1K for two - food and a small tour.
