Women! Know Your Rights!

There are laws enacted to protect us, men, women and children, but sadly, how many of us really have access to them? Here's a case in point. Got this from a girlfriend and it is very enlightening. All women should know about this. This law is probably applicable to Malaysia and in light of the escalating crime rate, it is good to know this one in particular. Women, please take note and pass it along.

Something for us to know.....

I was talking with a lawyer friend of mine. We were discussing the law and women`s rights. She told me about this incident - a young girl was raped by a man posing as a plain clothes officer ; he asked her to come to the police station when she and her male friend didn't have a driver`s license to show. He sent the boy off to get his license and asked the girl to accompany him to the police station. Took her instead to an isolated area where the horrendous crime was committed.

Infact, the law clearly states that between 6 pm and 6am , a woman has the right to REFUSE to go to the Police Station, even if an arrest warrant has been issued against her. It is a procedural issue that a woman can be arrested between 6pm and 6 am, ONLY if she is arrested by a woman officer and taken to an ALL WOMEN police station. And if she is arrested by a male officer, it has to be proven that a woman officer was on duty at the time of arrest.

It is good for us to know our rights. To what extent it comes of use remains to be seen in any situation. But as they say, knowledge is power.

Pass it along.

  1. After taking a law subject in my MBA, I have learned to always cite the source of law. Please may I know what Act are you referring to in this post.

You may want to keep this Act at home so that you can better argue with the officers.

I remember that under Employment Act, women are barred from working at night. But the definition of 'employee' under this Act can be limiting, and many women, for the sake of money, don't mind doing night shifts.

  2. KS, that's a good point. We do need to know the specifics to win a case.

I believe all Acts have loopholes because it's not possible to cover every little detail. That's why people can get away with murder, literally.

  4. Know your rights. And lefts and if that fails, a knee to the groin can be quite effective.

  5. MM, that's a good one though it's not easy to keep wrongs at bay.

PandaB, that's real good advice. Ouch!!
