Horse Riding as a Hobby

Horses are a rare sight here in Kuala Lumpur. I mean we do not see them in main thoroughfares like in Canada, for instance. We do not have farms here that require horses.

The only places we are able to see a horse or two are in the zoo or at a horse riding school, the latter, most of us would not ever think about visiting unless one is into horse riding.

Besides obtaining membership to an equestrian club, horse riding involves the right apparel and equipment such as riding boots, riding breeches, riding helmets, show clothes, horse blankets, saddles and much more. I hear English saddles are much sought after.

In temperate climes, autumn heralds the dawn of the best riding time of the year. The days are cooler, the flies are fewer and breathtaking fall colors add up to great riding experiences. If trail riding is your main interest, the trails will be more beautiful than ever.

  1. I enjoy horseback riding from time to time and have gone on beautiful scenic trail in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. K and I have ridden on the slopes of Haleakala volcano on Maui and on Taveuni island in Fiji. It's a great way to relax and see some beautiful natural places.

  2. If given the chance, I think I would enjoy horseback riding too, since I enjoy bicycle rides, though the latter offers less flexibility.

The Colorado Rocky Mountains must be some awesome place. This is where they've just installed a glass bridge, isn't it?

Going on horseback sure beats trekking. More miles can be covered, more beauty to be enjoyed.

The last time I rode on a horse was when I was a child and I didn't enjoy it...not used to sitting atop a horsey and the way it moves..makes me feel uncomfy. Right now, I won't ride either...coz of the many horse-related accidents.

  5. MBL, yeah, falling from a horse can be disastrous. One just need to take every precaution in any activity.

KS, affordability aside, I suppose one will need to at least like animals. Would golf be any cheaper you think?

  8. Hello Jonathan, if you are in the Kuala Lumpur area, you may want to check out the RSPG (Royal Selangor Polo Club) which is located in the Ampang Hilir area and there's the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club the other side of town.
