New Japan Entry Security Procedure

Last Friday, November 23, Japan put into effect its new Japan entry security rules. Travellers are required to go through the following procedure upon entering Japan:

o Submit passport to the immigration control officer.

o Listen to the immigration control officer explain the procedures and then place index fingers of both hands on a digital fingerprint reader. The fingerprint information will be read and stored electro-magnetically.

o Have a facial photograph taken, by way of a camera at the top of the digital fingerprint reader.

o Participate in a short interview by the immigration control officer.

On completion of the above procedures, the person wishing to enter Japan will receive his or her passport from the immigration control officer.

Except the finger-printing and facial photographing, the above security measures are already standard Japan entry requirements.
