Managing Debt with Credit Card Bank Transfer

Some of us choose not to have credit cards, yet the majority of us have more than one credit card. Sadly, more often than not, the cards we hold are running up increased balances. Escalating cost of goods and services are partly to blame, the other part, blame ourselves for over-spending. But that's for another post.

There is a way to manage all that debt. As one of the measures, financial experts would recommend a move such as Credit Card Balance Transfer. This would make it easier to manage credit as most bank transfer credit cards offer 0% APR for an introductory period of time.

For anyone who has a need of a bank transfer credit card, CreditCardSearchEngine.com is one of Internet’s longest running sites for online credit card comparison. It allows one to search, compare, and apply for all types of credit card offers, everything from low interest and reward card to cards for people with bad to average credit. They offer a range of credit cards from leading banks and issuers including Citibank, Bank of America, J.P. Morgan, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and many more. One can apply securely online.

2072 Good Computers Destroyed

Recently, enforcement officers cracked down on syndicates operating llegal gambling activities in cybercafes in various parts of the Klang Valley.

2072 computers were seized. Members of the public were upset that the computers were destroyed in the open. Concerns were raised that it was done incorrectly as destroying computers in the open would cause emission of toxins including lead, mercury, cadmium and others. I wonder if this would be considered as a negative factor in an environmental site assessment.

This act of destroying the computers (with bulldozers to boot) also raised queries as to why these good computers were not deployed to more needy places such as orphanages.

Dodge Charger Accessory

Being one who is always passionate about cars, an ex-colleague who has emigrated to the States, Texas, to be exact, recently came back to Malaysia for a holiday. His holiday also took in Singapore with the main intention of looking for one particular Dodge Charger accessory. Friends informed him that auto accessories and parts in Singapore are cheaper than in Malaysia even after taking in the exchange rate difference.

Friday Frolics: How Cynical Are You?

This week's Friday Frolics is a quiz on Cynicism. How cynical are you?

Each time I think about this episode, I can't help laughing at how gullible I could be. One evening, at a traffic junction while waiting for the light to turn green, a scrawny man of about fifty approached me. I wound down my window to his plea for ten ringgit for taxi-fare to go home (outstation he said).

Ten ringgit, okay, I thought it's just ten ringgit, so I gave him. The light was still red and I saw him got on the bus that came along. I thought nothing of it until much later, suddenly, it hit me, "hey, that happened once before!" - the exact same spot, the same time of day, the same man, the same amount of money, the same getting on the bus. huh?!

The point of the story is, basically, I'm not a cynical person, so I believed his reason for needing that money, even though he might be taking me for a ride. Call me gullible, call me naive, whatever. That's me. But, you know something? I'd still give him the money if he comes around a third time. He probably needs it more than I do. Or perhaps it was I who owed him the money in a previous life. Nothing happens by chance.

So, back to where we started, how cynical are you?

You Are 0% Cynical

Cynical? Not even close! If anything, you're a bit naive.

Overall, you enjoy life and try not to be paranoid. Even if you've been burned before.

Wealth Preservation

In last Saturday's post on Investing in Bullion, an interesting line of questioning came forth from Khengsiong. He asked, "Which is better, gold or silver? How about property?"

The wise Pandabonium shared an illuminating response:

"Gold and silver are good ways to preserve value. They are not "investments" in the sense that they do not grow like a business. Rather, they are ways to hold onto money already made and protect it from the foolish monetary policies of various countries.

Property in today's world is problematic and varies greatly from place to place. Certainly in the USA today it is not a good place to put one's savings."

Thank you, PandaB, I could not have done any better.

On the similar note on wealth preservation, I came across this article in The Star on strategies for preserving wealth.

Many people have the capacity to make great amounts of money but sadly, the same people may not have the knowhow as to preserving the wealth they amass. As fast as wealth can be accumulated, it can just as quickly be lost or greatly reduced. Wealth preservation is no mean feat but with the right strategies, one can make sure one's wealth is not being eroded away. The article above may offer some useful tips.

However, with regard to taxes, this point in the article is applicable for Malaysia only - "One of the simplest ways is to keep fixed deposit amounts below RM100,000 as this could save the investor withholding tax on the interest. "

This means that in Malaysia, interest earned from an amount above RM100,000 in a fixed deposit account is taxable. Not many people are aware of this.

Your Drinking Style - Alcohoroscopes

Some of us may still be on a merry holiday and are still nursing our favourite drink or drinks. Wanna know what's your drinking style in relation to your sun sign? You've got to find out, if only for a laugh. *hic*

This is a cute one!

If you have finished relating your birth signs to ANIMALS, BIRDS, FRUITS, COLORS, NUMBERS and what not, here is something to mull on!!! Happy Reading!!

BASED ON YOUR SUN SIGNS YOUR EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR AFTER YOU GET DRUNK !!

ARIES : Drinking style Impulsive Aries people like to party and sometimes don't know when to call it a night. Their competitive streak makes them prone to closing-time shot contests. They're sloppy, fun drunks, and they get mighty flirty after a couple tipples. Getting Aries people drunk is a good way to get what you want out of them, should other methods fail. Aries can become bellicose when blotto, but they will assume that whatever happened should be forgiven (if not forgotten) by sunrise. They can be counted on to do the same for you -- so long as you haven't gone and done anything really horrible to them last night, you sneaky Gemini.

TAURUS Drinking style Taurus prefers to drink at a leisurely pace, aiming for a mellow glow rather than a full-on zonk. Since a truly intoxicated Taurus is a one-person stampede, the kind of bull-in-a-china-shop inebriate who spills red wine on white carpets and tells fart jokes to employers, the preference for wining and dining (or Bud and buddies) to body shots and barfing is quite fortunate for the rest of us. This is not to say that the Bull is by any means a teetotaler -- god, no. A squiffy Taurus will get, er, gregarious (full of loud mouth soup, some would say) and is extremely amusing to drag to a karaoke bar when intoxicated.

GEMINI Drinking style Gemini's can drink without changing their behavior much-- they're so naturally chatty and short-attention-spanned that it's just hard to tell sometimes. They can amaze you by conversing with finesse and allusion, then doing something to belie an extremely advanced state of intoxication, like puking in your shoe. Gemini's possess the magic ability to flirt successfully (and uninfuriatingly, which is very tricky) with several people at once. They like to order different cocktails every round -- repetition is boring -- and may create a theme (like yellow drinks: beer, sauvignon blanc and limoncello) for their own amusement.

CANCER Drinking style Cancer is a comfort drinker -- and an extra wine with dinner or an after-work beer or six can be extra comforting, can't it, Cancer darling? Like fellow water signs Scorpio and Pisces, Crabs must guard against lushery. Cancers are brilliant at ferreting out secret parties and insinuating themselves on VIP lists -- and, in true Hollywood style, Cancers are never really drunk; instead, they get "tired and emotional" (read: weepy when lubricated). But there's nothing better than swapping stories (and spit) over a few bottles of inky red wine with your favorite Cancer. Even your second-favorite Cancer will do. The sign also rules the flavor vanilla, and you'd be adored if you served up a vanilla vodka and soda.

LEO Drinking style Leo likes to drink and dance -- they're often fabulous dancers, and usually pretty good drinkers as well, losing their commanding dignity and turning kittenish. Of course, they're quite aware they're darling -Leos will be Leos, after all. They generally know their limit, probably because they loathe losing self-control. When they get over-refreshed, expect flirting to ensue -- and perhaps not with the one what rung them. But Leo's not the type to break rules even when drunk, so just try to ignore it (try harder, Cancer) and expects a sheepish (and hung over) Lion to make it up to you the next day.

VIRGO Drinking style Cerebral Virgos are compelled to impose order onto their bender. Their famously fussy quest for purity could lead to drinking less than other signs, sure --but it could also lead to drinking booze neat, to sucking down organic wine or just to brand loyalty. They rarely get fully shellacked -- but, oh, when they do! Virgo's controlled by the intellect, but there's an unbridled beast lurking within, and they let it loose when walloped. It's dead sexy (and surprisingly unsloppy). As one Virgo friend used to declare, "I'm going to drink myself into a low-level of intelligence tonight." A toast to the sub genius IQ!

LIBRA Drinking style "I'm just a social drinker," slurs Libra, "it's just that I'm so damn social?" Libra loves nothing more than to party, mingle and relate to everyone. Whether dipped in favor of Good Libra (with Insta-Frienddevice set to "on") or heavier on the Evil Libra side (they are little instigators when bored), the Scales can really work a room. Charming as they are, Libras are notoriously lacking in self-control, however, which can get them into all sorts of trouble --including wearing their wobbly boots waaaay too early in the evening, flirting with every man/woman in the room or even blacking out the night's events entirely. Oops!

SCORPIO Drinking style Don't ever tell Scorpios they've had enough, for they'll smirk at you and quietly but intentionally keep tippling till they're hog-whimpering drunk, out of 100-proof spite. Scorpios like to drink, and screw you if you have a problem with that. Most of them seethe sauce as something to savor in itself, and not as a personality-altering tool -- though if depressed, self-loathing Scorps seek total obliteration. But generally, they're fascinating drinking pals, brilliant conversationalists and dizzying flirts. They also remember everything -- especially what you did when you were blitzed. Only drink with a Scorpio who likes you.

SAGITTARIUS Drinking style In vino veritas -- and, for Sagittarius, in booze blurtiness: When buttered, they'll spill all your secrets and many of their own. Tactlessness aside, Sagittarius is just plain fun to drink with. This is a sign of serious partying (what else would you expect from the sign of Sinatra, Keith Richards, the Bush twins and Anna Nicole Smith?). They're the people who chat up everyone in the room, then persuade the entire crowd to travel somewhere else -- like a nightclub, or a playground, or Cancun. Good-natured hijinks are sure to ensue (including a high possibility of loopy groping; spontaneous Sag is a brilliant booty call).

CAPRICORN Drinking style Capricorn is usually described as practical, steadfast, money-hungry and status-thirsty -- no wonder they get left off the astrological cocktail-party list. But this is the sign of David Bowie and Annie Lennox, not to mention Elvis. Capricorn is the true rock star: independent, powerful and seriously charismatic, not too eager to please. And if they make money being themselves, who're you to quibble? But just like most rock stars, they're either totally on or totally off, and they generally need a little social lubricant to loosen up and enjoy the after party, especially if they can hookup with a cute groupie.

AQUARIUS Drinking style Aquarius and drinking don't go together that well(except for water, that is). They have an innate tendency toward know-it-allism, and if they get an idea while sizzled, they're more stubborn than a stain or a stone. If they're throwing a party or organizing an outing, however, they're too preoccupied with their duties to get combative -- and they make perfectly charming drunks in that case. Fortunately, they're usually capital drink-nurses. They also make the best designated drivers (if you can get them before they start raising their wrist):Aquarius is fascinated by drunk people and capable of holding interesting conversations with soused strangers while sober.

PISCES Drinking style If you're a Pisces, you've probably already heard that you share a sign and an addictive personality --with Liz Taylor, Lisa Minnelli and Kurt Cobain. Not only do Pisces like to lose themselves in the dreamy, out-there feeling that only hooch can give, but they build up a mighty tolerance fast. Who needs an expensive date like that? On the other hand, they're fabulously enchanting partners, whether in conversation or in crime. With the right Pisces, you can start out sharing a pitcher of margaritas and windup in bed together for days. The phrase "addictive personality" can be read two ways, you know. ...

Investing in Bullion

I remember the elders saying that during the war, gold is more valuable than money. They must have experienced this realisation during the Japanese occupation in which they traded their pieces of jewelery for food or release.

These days, precious metals such as gold and silver can be used as hedges against both inflation and economic downturn. Investing in bullion is a much better bet than keeping cash due to the latter's fluctuating currency exchange rates. Silver coins have become more popular as collectibles as they are more affordable. As collectibles, they are far higher in value than their actual bullion value.

Through Monex Deposit Company (MDC) you can purchase silver, gold or other precious metals and coins for immediate personal delivery or arrange for convenient and safe storage at an independent bank or depository.

General Election

Is Malaysia set for a general election?

The Election Commission (EC) is. Some 50,000 transparent ballot boxes have been distributed across the country and 250,000 workers are ready to be mobilised.

This time around, the use of indelible ink is ready to be introduced, as requested by some political parties and non-governmental organisations, in an effort to prevent fraud.

Some 10.5 million citizens will be eligible to vote in the next general election, with the EC having recently endorsed an additional electoral roll of 412,756 voters.

The EC has also removed 141,063 names from the record of registered voters.

Friday Frolics: What Breed of Puppy Are You?

After the dog she had died last month, my friend, Christine, bought a puppy to replace him (the earlier pooch). The new puppy (not sure what breed it is) is really cute. The fur is brown and white and is longish and he looks just like a furball, kinda reminds me of a Koosh ball.

Anyway, if you were a puppy what breed do you think you would be?

I Am a Chow Puppy

Don't fence me in!

You're an independent spirit that won't be tied down.

Have a Happy Weekend, Everyone.

The Causes of Traffic Jams in Malaysia

Lots of things can cause traffic jams here. That's why when it begins to rain, some of my colleagues prefer to stay back in the office and leave later rather than being caught in the jam.

Another cause would be people slowing down to see an accident. Humans are inquisitive by nature perhaps. Some drivers would even go to the extent of parking by the roadside to investigate what has happened!

Yet another cause of traffic jams would be road-digging, either the telephone company would be laying cables or upgrading the old cables to fiber optic cables, or the water department would be laying pipes. The amazing thing is that one party would dig up the road, have road resurfaced after job is done, then the next party would come along and repeat the entire process of digging and resurfacing. Is this just in this country, I wonder.

My Friend, the Exercise Buff

Would you buy an item as seen on tv? The other day, a girlfriend saw something she liked on tv and asked that I go with her to check it out. It's some kind of exercise equipment. This shop that runs the program promoting its products. has several outlets in the city. They sell mostly exercise equipment and some household products. I was surprised to see a long line of customers at their paying counter.

What's In Your Goody Bag?

Goody bags are becoming a regular feature at functions and trade-shows. Even at the MATTA (travel) fair, each visitor to the fair is given a goody bag. One has to pay to gain access, of course, but I was there several years ago but they did not do that then.
.
Anyway, what do you normally find in a goody bag? I've found regular items such as brochures, vouchers and coupons, discount and name cards, promotional pens, sample vials of perfumes, miniature lipsticks, pins and brooches, t-shirts, books and magazines, scarves, scented candles, teddy bears, even a mug. Well, what I really wanted is a key to a house or a posh car. lol No such luck.

Do You Determine What's In The Market?

I was hanging out at a mall one time, and was approached by a very persistent young lass asking if I'd like to help her with a market research. How could I say no to someone so sweet and persistent. She was only doing her job, I was thinking, besides there was no buying involved. I was asked to watch a series of adverts and answered some simple questions of which there was no right or wrong answer. Now, that was easy. It only took about twenty minutes.

Paella, anyone?

One of my favourite foods is the claypot chicken rice. It's a complete meal by itself and is commonly found at food centres though the wait can be as long as fifteen minutes (sometimes longer) as the rice has to be slowly cooked over a charcoal stove.
.

When the rice is almost cooked, marinated chicken chunks, thinly-sliced chinese sausages and dried salted fish (optional but I prefer it included to give the rice the added aroma and saltiness - Yum!) are stirred in during the final stage of cooking. It is then served with a sprinkle of diced scallions (this, I don't fancy) or commonly known here as spring onions. The rice is served in the claypot itself though it's not eaten off it but from a plate provided. Did I say plate? Even though this is a rice dish, hawker stalls normally provide forks and spoons. Chopsticks, however, are provided for noodles.
.
Claypot chicken rice is a typical Chinese dish though it quite resembles the Spanish rice dish of chicken paella. Si?

Last Christmas

Good things must be shared - this being the season of giving and sharing and all. Also, good things must never be forgotten. So with that, dare I ask, "Shall I play Last Christmas again?"

Guess not (looking sheepishly at MM), but if you'd like a repeat performance or those of you who have not heard or seen it, you must must see this oh-so-cute Christmas gig, which I borrowed from LB. Here it is, Last Christmas.

Free Food at The Soup Kitchen, Jinjang

The Star today carries an article on a free food outlet called the Soup Kitchen opening soon in Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur. An outlet serving free food must be a first in Malaysia. Apparently, this food outlet has been operating for three years now in Alor Star and the people responsible have decided to open a branch here in Kuala Lumpur.

The article says everyone is welcome at the outlet, i.e., the needy sector of society. The body responsible for this kindness is Fungates Superflow Foundation. (Bless them.) More outlets are in the pipeline especially in the Klang Valley to cater to the urban poor, according to Clarine Chun, its director. All food served will be pork- and beef-free.

The Opening ceremony is scheduled to be on Christmas Day and operations will begin on January 15. Renovation to provide a cafe ambience is underway with funds donated by CIMB Bank. Pacific West also regularly donates frozen food. They welcome any raw material especially vegetables. For information, you can contact Angeline of Fungates at 03-798 388 27.

Awesome!

Come Together

Videos on YouTube used to take a long time to load. Probably just me, but recently no such issue so I'm back to YouTube-surfing. The other day, I heard Michael Jackson singing "Come Together" so I YouTubed it and came up with the Beatles version too, which is the original, I think. Right?

Even Aerosmith's rendition is pretty good. Funny video.

By the way, have you noticed the video on the sidebar? This will be changed whenever.

How to Accessorize Your Truck

I used to be paranoid when it comes to stepping onto a bar when getting into a truck or an SUV. Why? Because to me these bars don't look strong enough to support a person, even a light-weight like me. That was my impression until I read that these step bars are really strong, being constructed for maximum strength and durability.

Not only are they strong, they can be quite stylish too, just like the one with a wide oval tube design as in a Lund 5" step bar. There are also do-it-yourself types like those from T & H Euto-Tech. Of course, some people would prefer running boards for their vehicle though I think step bars look better on trucks. Besides, a step bar will protect your doors from kicked up stone and dirt as well as allow you to step into your truck.

How Much Do You Know About Wine?

If you are a connoisseur of wine, have I got the thing for you, the wine of the month club.

The Gold Medal Wine Club features only a small-production, hard-to-find, award-winning wines from California's best small wineries. Two outstanding wines each month are delivered to you or your gift recipient's doorstep from wineries among the best in the world.

They have a series of clubs you can join. Their Diamond Series Club features legendary wines and those destined for legendary status and is limited to a privileged 500 members only due to the rarity of these wines.

Members of their Platinum Series Club would have a rare opportunity to journey into the cellars of United States' finest wineries. These wines would be wines rated in the 90's, multiple Gold Medals, pre-releases, and exclusives.

Or join their most popular Gold Series Club where you'll get to taste their award-winning and hard-to-find wines.

Frankly, I don't know much about wine nor wine clubs but going through the site, I should think this is a great wine club to join if I were looking for one.

Cheers!

Moving With Less Stress

Moving has been found to be a source of stress though in some part of our life, moving is inevitable. Over here, most of us do our own packing when moving house and some of us even do our own moving with the help of friends.

Just last week, a colleague whose apartment is ready for occupation, asked if I knew any movers. If we were in New York, I'd surely recommend mover NYC.

Of Fine Lingerie and Condoms

Year-end is a time of merry-making where food is aplenty, drinks flow and waistline grows. Part of the fun comes with the gift-exchange. The element of surprise is always fun and exciting.

A girlfriend asked if it's alright to give fine lingerie. I'd say that's much better than a carton of condoms! Believe me, someone did give that away at one of the parties.

Chow Kit Road

I was driving along Chow Kit Road the other day and was surprised to see an increase in the number of small hotels offering Bed and Breakfast. This is a step towards encouraging tourism.

Chow Kit Road used to be associated with transvestites and things cheap. Some ten years ago, this area was thriving with stalls along the pavement just outside shops. It was a popular shopping area for those looking for a bargain.

Decorative Wreaths

Isn't this decorative wreath just so pretty and cheerful? I haven't seen any quite like it here in Malaysia. Wish this type of pretty decorative wreaths are available here so the homes of my Christian friends would be prettier during the Christmas season, not that they are not pretty already. Well, this is a lot different and cheerful than the ones we normally find here.

Eye on Malaysia

Yes, I finally made it! More pictures later.

Educational Toys

Recently, toy manufacturers in China have been hit bad by toy recalls by big toy-stores for reasons ranging from presence of lead to non-children-friendly parts.

Toy-buying these days can be a challenging process. One has to put some thought into the type of toys to buy. Gone are the days where any toy goes. A gift of a small ball or a water-pistol would have the child on cloud nine. Parents had not heard of educational toys. We have come a long way indeed, which is a positive sign, however.

Are You Taking Care Of Your Loved Ones?

One thing leads to another, from colon cleansing, let's move over to protection and insurance. In one of our outings, we (my friends and I) shared stories, good and bad but mostly bad stories, about experiences of people we know. All sorts of stories came up including death and hardships of family members left behind by the deceased, inadequate compensation or funds for those stricken with a disease, auto accidents and so on and so forth.

This all sounds morbid, I know, hopefully enough to move you to go get some life insurance quotes and take appropriate action if you don't already have adequate insurance coverage for yourself and your loved ones.

Malaysia Is Not All That Bad

Of late, there's been a lot of dissent and dissatisfaction among Malaysians, as evidenced by more and more blogs talking about the state of affairs here in Malaysia. Could the Law of Attraction as acknowledged in The Secret manifesting itself? The more you fear something, the more there will be? Why not instead visualize a better Malaysia where there is peace, harmony and prosperity.

I don't blog about politics so this is not a political post. A short article in the papers today caught my attention. It says Jeff Ooi was questioned by the cops for being interviewed by Al Jazeera last month. The report alleged that Ooi, a journalist and blogger, tarnished the country’s image and caused racial tension with his statements in the Nov 10 interview pertaining to a protest organised by Bersih, a coalition of opposition parties and non-governmental organisations.

I haven't seen that video clip and was wondering as to what transpired. So, I looked it up. I've included the clip here in case, like me, you too are curious.

In an earlier post, Furkids asked that I comment on his Monday post. So I checked it out.

Furkids, I read the entire list of comments, including yours. Some of the bloggers are more mature and realistic in their approach. What I can add is that the average Malaysian does not encounter the incidents brought up. There are very pleasant experiences too. It's just that, they are not being blogged. No, when you come to Malaysia, Deb will not be groped anywhere. That's really 'kua cheong' (exaggerated) to presume that. lol So, don't worry a thing. It's absolutely safe here. Like being anywhere else in the world, one has to take the usual precautions like any other tourist or even local for that matter, like be careful when crossing the street or hang on to your handbag, things like that.

For more reassurance, you won't be ripped off by airport taxis as the taxi fare is regulated and there's only a licensed government-approved taxi counter there where you'll have to buy a ticket to get on. Everything is above board and no hanky-panky.

The current state of affairs may leave much to be desired (which country is perfect anyway?!), but it's not as if it's so bad that you can't walk down the street on your own. You can still go out for a hot "pulled tea" (teh tarik) or a McD burger at two in the morning and we do have 7 Eleven stores that are open 24 hours should your party run out of ice at three in the morning. We have 24-hour gas stations and some of us do our banking late at night. Pssst! I do.

Come to think of it, Malaysia is still a young nation, just turned 50 - just a fraction of how old United States is. I believe the country will improve in time. Change for the better is inevitable as people become more aware and more educated. There would be more fairness all around - politically, economically and culturally. Every adult (Malaysian (above 21) has a voice. We just need to learn how to exercise that voice for the better by registering to vote.

Getting Rid of Spam and Others

I read that we should try not to open spam emails because chances are we'd then proceed to click on more spam links and it'd lead to more spam coming in and it'd be like a never-ending story.

If streets out there are not safe, the Internet is also not a safe highway. We get hit by junkmail, scams and what-not, get attacked by bots, trojans, viruses, get our identity stolen, the works.

I hear there is now a single resource computer security software, called ESET smart security. ESET Smart Security prevents, detects and removes malware you face - adware, bots, rootkits, spyware, trojans, viruses, worms and other Internet threats -on the job, at home and everywhere your computer goes. I've got to check that out.

It's the Sultan's Birthday

Today's a holiday for some of us in the Klang Valley, more precisely for those of us whose workplace is in Selangor state and that includes Petaling Jaya (or PJ commonly referred to). It's a public holiday to commemorate the installation of the Sultan of Selangor.

This being the month of Christmas and the end of school, malls are having their usual year-end sale. This serves well for Christmas gift-shopping and for parents to get new school stuff for their school-going kids - uniforms, shoes, bags, stationery and such.

For some parents with a few school-going children, this time of the year could be a trying time, financially. I used to have a colleague with ten children (no joke) and every December, he'd be looking worried though I couldn't tell whether he was fretting over financial issues. Would a Payday Loan have helped to alleviate the frown, I wonder. Probably, if money was his concern.

Payday loans offer fast solutions for those times when quick cash advance is needed before the next paycheck arrives. It's convenient as loan application is hassle-free and the cash is depostied into one's bank account very quickly.

Christmas Trees

I haven't had the chance to see what Christmas trees and lightings we have downtown. I know, I'm rather behind on this activity this year.

Over here, Christmas decorations are nicest at the malls and hotels. They make great photo opportunities. That's why around this time of the year, you'll see more people visiting hotels with family in tow and camera in hand. In the meantime, here are some Christmas trees and lightings around the world to keep you occupied while I make my rounds. (These are borrowed from the MSN site.) Enjoy....

Before the ball drops in Times Square, the Big Apple turns on its holiday charm with the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. This snow-globe-worthy scene celebrates its 75th anniversary this season.

The Capitol Christmas tree in Washington, D.C., is decorated with 3,000 ornaments that are the handiwork of U.S. schoolchildren. Encircling evergreens in the “Pathway of Peace” represent the 50 U.S. states.

A token of gratitude for Britain’s aid during World War II, the Christmas tree in London's Trafalgar Square has been the annual gift of the people of Norway since 1947.

Drink a glass of gluhwein from the holiday market at the Romer—Frankfurt's city hall since 1405—and enjoy a taste of Christmas past.

Against a backdrop of tall, shadowy firs, a rainbow trio of Christmas trees lights up the night (location unknown).

The Christmas tree that greets revelers at the Puerta del Sol is dressed for a party. Madrid's two-week celebration makes millionaires along with merrymakers. On Dec. 22, a lucky citizen will win El Gordo (the fat one), the world's biggest lottery.

In addition to the Vatican's heavenly evergreen, St. Peter’s Square in Rome hosts a larger-than-life nativity scene in front of the obelisk.

Ooh la la Galeries Lafayette! In Paris, even the Christmas trees are chic. With its monumental, baroque dome, plus 10 stories of lights and high fashion, it's no surprise this show-stopping department store draws more visitors than the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.

"Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree…": Even in its humblest attire, aglow beside a tiny chapel in Germany's Karwendel mountains, a Christmas tree is a wondrous sight.

The largest Christmas tree in Europe (more than 230 feet tall) can be found in the Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, Portugal. Thousands of lights adorn the tree, adding to the special enchantment of the city during the holiday season.

Moscow celebrates Christmas according to the Russian Orthodox calendar on Jan. 7. For weeks beforehand, the city is alive with festivities in anticipation of Father Frost's arrival on his magical troika with the Snow Maiden. He and his helper deliver gifts under the New Year tree, or yolka, which is traditionally a fir.

Venice's Murano Island—renowned throughout the world for its quality glasswork—is home to the tallest glass tree in the world. Sculpted by master glass blower Simone Cenedese, the artistic Christmas tree is a modern reflection of the holiday season.

Illuminating the Gothic facades of Prague’s Old Town Square, and casting its glow over the manger display of the famous Christmas market, is a grand tree cut in the Sumava mountains in the southern Czech Republic.

A Christmas tree befitting Tokyo's nighttime neon display is projected onto the exterior of the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka.

The world's largest Christmas tree display rises up the slopes of Monte Ingino outside of Gubbio, in Italy’s Umbria region. Composed of about 500 lights connected by 40,000 feet of wire, the “tree” is a modern marvel for an ancient city.

Do You Need A Hotel in Las Vegas?

Here in Malaysia, December is normally regarded as the holiday month as many parents schedule their family vacation in December because of the year-end school holidays. Schools are closed for seven weeks and will re-open after Jan 1.

However, the weather can be cold this time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere so people try not to venture too far north or holiday in Australia or the neighbouring regions. There are exceptions, of course. My colleague and her family will be going to the west coast of the US and was asking if I have any information on any hotel in Vegas. I pointed her to a few hotel websites. Isn't the Internet wonderful?

Friday Frolics: What Type of Weather Are You?

Let's talk about the weather (again). I picked weather for this week's Friday Frolics. I'm a rainbow, you see. :P

Do you sometimes ask your colleagues about the weather condition in the office or more precisely in your boss's office? Interesting how human weather influences. Would you postpone meeting your superior if the weather is stormy? On a lighter note, generally what type of weather are you?

You Are a Rainbow
Breathtaking and rare
You are totally enchanting and intriguing
But you usually don't stick around long!

You are best known for: your beauty

Your dominant state: seducing

A Birthday Wish - December 0707

I just realised that today is the birthday of an old friend. He may not be reading this but still, I'd like to freeze this day in time, at least on this blog.

Best Wishes for A Very Happy Birthday and Many, Many Happy Returns of the Day.

It's a Chilly Day in Kuala Lumpur

Just when I was raving about the good weather a few days ago, it's been raining since yesterday morning. It wasn't heavy mostly but enough to dampen any spirit as we still have to stay indoors.

This is the monsoon season, this time of the year. There were on a few occasions in which school final-term exams had to be postponed due to the floods. Fortunately, this only happened in the north-eastern state of Kelantan. The monsoon also brought much devastation last year, or was it the previous year, to the people of the southern state of Johore. This year, the people and authorities are stocking up on items gearing up for any eventuality of floods again.

Looks like we'll have to bear with the monsoon rains before we get to enjoy the sunny period of the Chinese New Year.

This is the Kuala Lumpur skyline right now. I took this picture a little before 2pm. Parts of tall buildings are shrouded in clouds. It's chilly outside. A colleague who visited London and other parts of Europe recently, commented that the weather reminds her of the trip.
