Hope you are having better luck with the weather at where you are. Kuala Lumpur has been having rain these past few days and it is raining as we speak.

The north-east monsoon season has started in Malaysia, so if you are visiting this part of the world at this time of the year, may I suggest you also pack an umbrella or you could buy one here. Umbrellas are plentiful here and are not too pricey too. You can find them at most shops and shopping complexes. The foldable type would be more convenient to have around. A raincoat might work better though umbrellas are more widely used and easily available if you need one.

AirAsia sets record with 900,000 seats sold in 48 hours

So, are you one of the thousands who managed to secure one or two or more of the 900,000 seats sold in the 48 hours of AirAsia's zero fair offer?

Some stats from The Star:

Local low-cost carrier AsiaAsia has recorded a new international sales record with 402,222 seats snapped up in 24 hours after the launch of its “one million free seats” campaign on Nov 11.

The airline said another 489,000 seats were taken up on the second day.

AirAsia’s website registered over 300 million hits in the first 11 hours of the campaign alone.


It's not too late to grab a piece of the action as the offer is still on today (Sunday).

This article will give you five facts that everyone should know before choosing the best Air Asia X seat for your next flight. As well as informing you of the best seats and explaining the truth about the Air Asia X seat pitch, this article will also explain how to actually go about securing these seats for your next flight.

Tip #1: The truth about seat pitch

Many major newspapers around the world incorrectly slate Air Asia for having very small seats with only a 31" seat pitch. Well 31" isn't that small and it is actually the same as British Airways, Lufthansa and United Airlines have. Even tall people can still fit in these seats no problem.

Tip#2: Seat widths

Air Asia X use Airbus A330 aircraft equipped with 9 seats (3-3-3) across. Most airlines that use the aircraft have 8 seats across (2-4-2). Air Asia was smart about it and reduced the width of the aisles and the armrests making the seats only slightly narrower. If you are fine with a regular Economy seat, then you will find Air Asia X seats to be comfortable enough as well.

Tip#3: Seat recline

The genius behind the 9 seat across plan was clearly having a bad day when the seat recline options were chosen. Air Asia X seats do not recline, instead the base slides forward to create an angled back. If you are in a regular seat this will kill most of your legroom and make it very uncomfortable. This is not an issue with exit row/bulkhead seats or if you are a small person. The airline has listened to customer feedback and is replacing these seats with regular ones in 2010. Until then, remember to bring a neck pillow.

Tip #4: Exit row seats

It is worth mentioning that all seats on Air Asia X have individual TV screens with video on demand. The TV for exit row seats is in the armrest, which normally makes these seats slightly narrower. Air Asia X decided this would make these seats too small. Instead, the airline made the middle seat in the Exit row very narrow and always leaves these seats empty. This is a great as it means the remaining exit row seats have unlimited legroom and they have an empty seat next to them. These seats can be booked in advance, for a fee, anytime including at time of booking and are labelled as hot seats. These normally cost 100 Ringgit, £20GBP or $40AUD.

Tip#5: Bulkhead seats

Bulkhead seats are a similar story to Exit row seats. The middle seat is always free as it is too narrow for anyone to sit in. The downside of bulkhead seats is that their legroom is slightly limited when compared to exit row seats. Furthermore, they are more likely to have babies in them as these seats are next to the bassinet. Still, if exit row seats are not available, these are excellent seats to have. Again, you can book these on the Air Asia X website when you book you ticket or at any time until you have checked in. Also note that if these seats are empty, you will not be permitted to sit in them unless you have paid the extra hot seat charge.

Summer Holiday

As free as a bird. I think so too. Or next best thing would be to be able to fly your own aircraft and swing by to any destination you fancy just like what John Travolta is doing.

Talk about flying, in conjunction with the launching of their daily direct flight to Taiwan from July 1, AirAsia has come up with a package deal of 3D2N with hotel included. Booking period is from 24 April to 3 May and travel period is from 1 Jul to 31 Jan 2010.

The advert is in yesterday's papers, The Star, page N31. In today's papers, it was reported that 20000 seats have been snapped up within 12 hours of AirAsia opening its new Kuala Lumpur-Taipei route. Is there a recession? Perhaps many people travel to Taipeh on business and with AirAsia flying this route, a lot of savings can be realised.

Summer is fast approaching and when it does, Malaysia, like any other tourist destination, will be playing host to holiday-makers in droves. Five-star hotels would see very high occupancy rates and department stores would be bustling again with customers who don't bat an eyelid at the high prices of designer wear. Yep, summer is good for business. And yes, summer spells mega sales which the locals can take advantage of too.

Air Asia Strikes Again

In case you have not had the chance to read the headlines yet, and if you intend to travel second or early third quarter of next year, this piece of AirAsia news may be for you.

Air Asia is doing it again! They are offering 500,000 free seats with no fuel surcharge. Booking period is from today, Wed, until Sunday. Travel date for the free seats is from June 22 to Oct 24 next year.

In fact, all AirAsia and AirAsia X passengers will now no longer have to pay for the fuel surcharge for all local and international flights. However, should fuel prices increase in the future, the fuel surcharge would be reintroduced. Fuel surcharge can set a traveller back an average of RM47 per person, so there is some savings there.

Passengers would now only have to pay for the fare, airport tax and administration fee when flying with Air Asia, and, of course, the check-in baggage handling fee.

Talk about baggage, what's the biggest number of bags that you have ever checked in? Anything close to the number that Mariah Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon, brought along on their 3-night visit to London? Between them, they had 20 bags.

But I digress. So, if travel is on your cards for next year, make it an AirAsia destination and book your free seat. You have until Sunday.

Fly to Australia for only RM10.00 or less

Come early September, for less than RM10, you will be able to fly from here to Australia when low-cost carriers AirAsia X and Jetstar begin their separate operations.

AirAsia X, Malaysia’s first long-haul budget airline, is expected to start its first flight between here and an Australian east-coast city on Sept 8 while a day later, Sept 9, Jetstar (the low-cost subsidiary of Qantas) will start its operations from here to Sydney.

Jetstar is offering fares from RM88 for one-way travel in September and February. Taxes and surcharges will come up to RM409.50. Their one-way fare for October and November is RM488 excluding taxes and surcharges. Jetstar's fares will be about 20% cheaper than those offered by full-service carriers.

For comparison, the cheapest return economy fare on Malaysia Airlines is RM2,734.80.
