Drop in Johor Bahru crime rate

As a follow-up to my earlier post, Stop the Violence in Johor Bahru, I read the other day that the crime rate in JB has dropped. The Star reported that:

The increased police presence in the city is showing results – the crime figures have dropped this week as more than 90 police cars and 150 FRU men have been patrolling the streets of Johor Baru (South) and Johor Baru (North) districts since Monday. "

Let's hope the good trend continues.

  1. "... the crime figures have dropped this week..."

It is too early to call it a victory.

  2. Let's hope the police continue to be the solution rather than the problem. In many countries of the world (thankfully neither the U.S. or Japan is included) the police are probably the most ruthless criminals, and an increased police presence would invariably result in worsening crime statistics.

Does that mean only with police presence that crime rate would drop
What happens when they are not there

In several large US cities the police are corrupt. In the case of Los Angeles, they have also been the tool of the CIA for decades and involved in drug trafficking.

But that said, even corrupt police forces can have a good effect in reducing crime rates over all.

  6. KS, perhaps but at least it's a positive indication, is it not?

MM, as far as I know it's still okay in Malaysia though there are some isolated cases of misbehaviour.

Z, let's hope that won't be the case.

LB, we need cats that won't go away, I suppose. lol

Hi Isis, welcome to my humble blog.

Thank you for sharing what you shared and I do agree with your last statement. Thank goodness for that which brings to mind what is often said that in everything good there is bad and in everything bad there is good.

I don't know whether it's a safe place to be there. My family just went there last weekend and my dad was pick-pocket there.

It was so pathetic cause they even get away with using my dad Master Card for their own shopping spree...

Really leave a bad impression to me.

  8. Awww..Fara, so sorry to hear what happened to your dad. Losing a wallet is traumatic as it involves losing other documents. Hope your dad realised early enough to cancel his cards to prevent further losses.

    Thanks for dropping by, Fara.
