It's All About The Runway

Authored by Leandro Delgado

We all have guilty pleasures--for some, it's chocolate, while for others it's reading gossip magazines. My guilty pleasure is watching Project Runway. I have always prided myself on being fashion forward and enjoyed following fashion trends. Maybe I have some hidden desire to design clothes, or maybe not. But, I do know that Project Runway allows me to live vicariously through the designers on this reality show.

There is just something about sitting down with a diet coke in hand, turning on my www.TVByDirect.comsatellite TV, and kicking back to watch the emotion and drama unfold on Project Runway. While watching all of emotion play out on screen while the designers come up with some crazy apparel is entertaining to say the least, the last 15 minutes of the show is perhaps even better! It is in the last part of the show that we get to see the runway show and judgment. The judgment consists of the Heidi Klum and the rest of the judges critiquing each individual designer. The emotions that were displayed earlier in the show are now multiplied by a factor of at least 10. At the end of an hour somebody is kicked off the show and I can rest easily that night knowing that I had a full hour, to myself, enjoying my guilty pleasure.

The Biggest Loser Asia 2

If you had enjoyed watching The Biggest Loser Asia Season 1, you wouldn't want to miss Season 2.

The Biggest Loser Asia 2 premieres on Diva Universal (formerly Hallmark Channel, Astro Channel 702) on Sept 21 at 9pm. The new host this season is Marion Caunter.

An American franchise, The Biggest Loser aims to help morbidly overweight people lose weight and get healthy. Under the guidance of trainers, the contestants are put through the grinder – six hours of exercise a day, portion control, discarding unhealthy and fatty foods – every day, for about three months.

They stay in a remote location undisclosed to the public and are isolated from family and friends.

At the end of the series, the person who has lost the most weight wins. David Gurnani from Indonesia is Season 1 winner.

Read about this season's contestants and why they join the reality TV show..

Trainers Kristi Curtis and Dave Nuku are back with an arsenal of different training strategies to whip their out-of-shape team members into fitter and stronger individuals.

The Biggest Loser Asia - Winner David Gurnani

The Biggest Loser Asia recently concluded its maiden season with Indonesian winner, David Gurnani, walking away with the first prize. He received USD100,000 (RM350,000) and a car sponsored by Renault for his efforts.

Gurnani lost 83kg - 53% of his body fat. He came into the competition weighing 157kg. Amazing results after just a short five months, don't you think? This shows that the right exercise routine and adherence to healthy meal plans together makes the best weight loss supplement. I read that one of the show trainers has drawn up a 13-week programme to help people lose weight.

This is Gurnani before and after..

Gurnani, extreme right.

The Biggest Loser Reality Show

I haven't seen this show on tv yet but I read that auditions for this reality show, The Biggest Loser, were held in August. The above photo is courtesy of MSN. Sarimah Ibrahim is the host of the show.

Looking at the long line of people turning up for the audition, the show must be doing well. People are more concerned about health these days but not everyone knows how to choose the right food. Plus, not everyone is aware of how their choices (of food) affect their body - appearance, health and mind. From this show, participants and viewers alike would have been introduced to ways of staying healthy and fit through proper nutrition and exercise and that staying trim may not necessarily require weight loss products.

Reality Show: Jon & Kate Plus 8

TV audiences around the world have been inundated (yes, inundated) with reality shows especially from the United States. It is a good thing that not all of them come to our shores as some of them are really skanky reality shows.

Several months ago while channel-surfing, I stumbled upon two that I found interesting enough to have me watch on and off over time.

One of them is about a couple of little people and their family, (the title escapes me right now), the other being Jon & Kate Plus 8. This one has an element of cuteness as it talks about a Southeastern Pennsylvania couple, Jon and Kate Gosselin, who have their hands full raising twins Cara and Madelyn, and their sextuplets, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel. This reality series follows the Gosselins through their crowded daily routines.

The twins were born in 2000 and sextuplets born in 2004, after Kate Gosselin underwent fertility treatments. Gosselin is also a registered nurse and has authored books on her experiences with motherhood. She became well known to audiences when she began co-starring with her husband, Jon Gosselin.

Jon Gosselin became a famous face when he became the co-star of a reality show about his family in 2005. Gosselin also co-authored books with his wife about their parenting experiences.

Last season, Jon and Kate went to Hawaii and renewed their wedding vows. The entire family was present. How sweet!

Raising eight children and in front of the cameras must have taken its toll on Jon and Kate and their relationship. In Monday's episode, Jon and Kate announced their separation. How devastating. I feel sad for them, especially for the kids. The show will still go on, however. Some viewers feel that they are exploiting the kids for fame and money but then again, without this show, the kids may not be living the way they are living right now - in this wonderful big house which is central to the show. Both parents will take turns to be here with the kids for the show. Some arrangement, but, that's life.

Have you watched Jon & Kate Plus 8? What do you think of it?

Meanwhile, the 10 finalists of the American Idol Season 8 are prepping up getting ready to go on tour nationwide (US), starting off at Oregon on July 5.

Do You Watch Reality Shows?

Reality shows are a dime a dozen these days. No, not really that bad but there truly are a lot of reality shows lately.

Off-hand, I can think of the Survivor series, The Amazing Race, the various Idol shows, and who can miss out Who Wants to be A Millionaire? And then there's one on dating and Trump's The Apprentice, of course, and one on being a Dog Groomer.

And one that's coming up is The Big Looser. This one is about losing weight. No, a diet pill won't do. Participants have to go through the grind of actually losing weight through strenuous and back-breaking workouts. Whoever loses the most weight wins.

Which reality show do you watch, if any?
