Haze spreading across Southeast Asia

Malaysia is once again shrouded in haze and it's even preventing the sun from shining through here in Kuala Lumpur. This is what happens in September each year when land-clearing takes place in Sumatra and Kalimantan. The condition further worsens with the lack of rainfall.

CNN reports that there are 1,200 hotspots identified in Southern Sumatra. Fortunately, air quality is not as bad here in Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur as it is in Indonesia. Take a look at the video from CNN.

  3. Thought the half day rain could have taken away the haze and Bananaz can sing 'I can see clearly now the haze is gone' but sorry still not clear as yet.

  5. Oh no! Not again! *sighz*

I seriously doubt we can ever totally eradicate the oil palm farmers in Indonesia slashing and burning to clear their land. Becos Indonesia is so freaking big. Malaysia and Singapore would have to contribute more money and machinery to arm these farmers so they don't have to clear their land by slashing and burning. But because of corruption, a lot of this money may not reach the farmers to help them in the end.

Eugene, any rain is better than none. We need more of that here in KL though we are getting some vague sunshine today. Hope your wifey is feeling better.

  7. Bananaz, we seriously need a heavy downpour at least to clear the day's haze. Tomorrow we start all over again. How exciting!

SK, it's Saturday today so it's kind of a Sad'day as the day gets overcast? No matter, weekends are happy days..

  8. Hi Mockingbird. It's going to be an extremely financially-challenging project for any country to take on. Sumatra land mass far exceeds that of Peninsula Malaysia and Sgp combined! We can only pray for the wind to blow the other way. You're right - Sigh..
