Globalwarming Awareness

Did you know that 2007 has been declared the year for Globalwarming? Everyone needs to be made aware that our Earth is changing negatively and it is due to the effects of globalwarming which is in turn caused by certain human activities. In recent times, there has been an increase in extreme weather conditions in the form of hurricanes, disruption of the ice shelf and the most significant Glacial retreat. www.encyclocentral.com has more on globalwarming. In fact, the site has many more interesting articles such as Medical Malpractice Lawyers, Foundries, Claims, CDs and electronics, medicine and many more.

This is really good news for travellers as MAS has tickets as low as RM9 while AirAsia beats that and offers one for only 0.99sen. I kid you not. Read on..

Cosmetic Treatments

We are all suckers of beauty, external beauty, that is. Well, maybe not all but most of us. We idolise celebrities sadly, primarily for their looks. Not a day goes by without gossip magazines talking about which celeb just had a part of her nipped, folded, enlarged or something. One wonders which part or parts of these hot people are natural. It seems like cosmetic treatments are the norm rather than the rule these days. People would go for body parts enlargement, reshaping the chin and even hair removal. In Korea and Japan, lots of women go under the surgeon's knife to uplift their looks. Would you?

What to do at meetings

Do you keep falling asleep in meetings and seminars? A friend shared this great method. See if it works for you.

1. Before (or during) your next meeting, seminar, or conference call, prepare for the meeting by drawing a square -- 5"X5" is a good size.

2. Divide the square into columns -- five across and five down. That will give you 25 one-inch blocks

3. In each block, write one of the following words/phrases:

.....synergy
.....strategic fit
.....core competencies
.....best practice
.....bottom line
.....revisit
.....take that offline
.....24/7
.....out of the loop
.....benchmark
.....value-added
.....proactive
.....win-win
.....think outside the box
.....fast track
.....result-driven
.....empower(ment)
.....knowledge base
.....at the end of the day
.....touch base
.....mindset
.....client focus(ed)
.....ballpark
.....game plan
.....leverage

4. Whenever you hear any one of those words/phrases, check off the appropriate block.

5. When you get five blocks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, stand up and shout BULLSHIT

Testimonials from satisfied "Bullshit Bingo" players:

"I had been in the meeting for only five minutes when I won." -- JW, Boston

"My attention span at meetings has improved drastically." -- DD, Miami

"What a gas! Meetings will never be the same for me after my first win." -- SS, NYC

"The atmosphere was tense in our last process meeting as 14 of us waited for the fifth box." -- JR, St. Louis

"The speaker was stunned as eight of us screamed BULLSHIT! for the third time in two hours." -- KL, Atlanta

Holiday by Greenday

A number to warm up to for that clubbing tonight. The video is on the side-bar.

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an armagedon flame (hey)
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called "faith and misery" (hey)
And bleed
The company lost the war today

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protester has crossed the line (hey)
To find the moneys on the other side

Can i get another amen? (amen)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men (hey)
A gag
A plastic bag on a monument

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

hey

The representative from California has the floor:

Zieg heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel Towers
Who criticize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me

Just cause
Just cause because we're outlaws YA!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

This is our lives on holiday

Horror Movie

I'm not a fan of horror movies. It's no fun waking up in the morning still feeling tired and body aching all over after a restless night trying to flee and hide from those terrifyingly-looking monsters or ghosts. Perhaps this horror movie would have the same effect on these poor chickens.

Depression Kills

Remember the Altantuya case? And remember the lady who was mistaken for her? Sadly, this beautiful actress and pop singer has been found hanged in her home in Korea. U-Nee, as she is known, is believed to have been suffering from depression.

Take Hoodia to lose weight

Some obese people find difficulty in losing weight because they are always hungry or rather they feel hungry all the time thus they have to have food.

There's now a new food supplement that can help them lose weight naturally and effectively. The hoodia weight loss method is a natural method as it gets people get control of their hunger by fooling the brain into believing they are full.

Hoodia is a natural product thus no fear of side effects. It is a cactus found in the Kalahari desert. There's no better and safer way to lose weight than with Hoodia. Perhaps I should recommend it to my friends who have been trying unsuccessfully to lose weight. I'm sure they'll thank me for it.

The Doctors Receptionist

This was received today. I guess my friend thought I needed a lighter moment being Thursday and all. Yeah, some situations in life warrant something akin to the story here. Please do excuse the language though.

This may actually be a fictitious STORY but I did come across similar situations where the receptionist indeed asks stupid questions to which she has no answers in the first place. Others tell you straight away that you need this or that test/treatment before the doctor even had a chance to speak to you.

There's nothing worse than a Doctor's Receptionist who insists you tell her what is wrong with you in a room full of other patients. I know most of us have experienced this, which is why I love the way this old guy handled it.

An 86-year-old man walked into a crowded Doctor's Waiting Room. As he approached the desk, the Receptionist said, "Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?"

"There's something wrong with my dick," he replied. The Receptionist became irritated and said, "You shouldn't come into a crowded Doctor's Room and say things like that."

"Why not? You asked me what was wrong and I told you," he said.

The Receptionist replied, "You've obviously caused some embarrassment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and then discuss the problem further with the Doctor in private."

The man replied, "You shouldn't ask people things in a room full of others, if the answer could embarrass anyone." The man walked out, waited several minutes and then re-entered.

The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, "Yes?"

"There's something wrong with my ear," he stated.

The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice. "And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?"

"I can't piss out of it," the man replied.

The Waiting Room erupted in laughter.

Is this world made for men or women?

I sometimes think that this world was made for men but then again, lots of things benefit women too (like childbirth, yeah, right!) and no point ranting about it. Anyway, here's a guy's opinion of the world. What do you think?

Thought 1
When we are born, our mothers get the compliments and the flowers.
When we are married, our brides get the presents and the publicity.
When we die, our widows get the life insurance.
What do women want to be liberated from ?

Thought 2
The average man's life consists of :
Twenty years of having his mother ask him where he is going
Forty years of having his wife ask the same question
and at the end, the mourners wonder too

Thought 3
A man was walking down a street when he heard a voice from behind :
" If you take one more step, a brick will fall down on your head and kill you. "
The man stopped and a big brick fell right in front of him.
The man was astonished.
He went on, and after a while, as he was going to cross the road,
once again the voice shouted :
" Stop ! Stand still ! If you take one more step, a car will run over you, and you will die."
The man did as he was instructed, just as a car came screeching around the corner, barely missing him.
The man asked. " Who are you ? "
" I am your guardian angel, " the voice answered.
" Oh, yeah ? " the man asked : " Then where the hell were you when I got married ? "

Thought 4
Everyone in the wedding ceremony was watching the radiant bride as her father escorted her down the aisle to give her away to the groom.
They reached the altar and the waiting groom; the bride kissed her father and placed some thing in his hand.

Everyone in the room was wondering what was given to the father by the bride. The father could feel the suspense in the air, and all eyes were on him to divulge the secret and say something.
So he announced : " Ladies and Gentlemen. Today is a lucky day for me."
Then he raised his hands with what his daughter gave him and continued,

"My daughter finally, finally returned my credit card to me."

The whole audience including the priest started laughing .......... but not the poor groom!

Vacation Homes

Are you due for a vacation and are you one who prefers to stay in a home-like environment when you go on vacation? I know some of my friends do and I know they will like this website that I recently came across. It's a website of vacation homes of all types, condos, villas, cabins, etc., from Alaska to Florida to Canada, to the Caribbean to Mexico. You can locate thousands of vacation rentals. Simply select the state and the type of lodging you are looking for. For more detailed information, their advanced search feature provide renters with the ability to find reviews, availability dates, regions, city searches, etc. VLBO is a useful site of by owner vacation rentals.

VLBO is also a site where you can list your property, either for rent of sale. You'd be surprised at how low their rates are - as low as $0.27 a day. You'd be able to view your Listing Statistics, such as the number of hits you have received, the number of enquiries and others. You can update and edit your rental anytime you like and you even have your own URL and many more features you have access to as an owner.

Whether you are looking for a holiday home or have a home to rent or sell, VLBO.com is one to check out.

A Frog

This is a nice sketch of a frog, don't you think? Wait a minute, you might say, what frog? You might have seen a horse instead.

This is exactly the same sketch, just seen from different angles. Isn't this so reflective of life? Sometimes, we do not see what the other person sees. Simple moral of the story here: We have to respect each other's opinion. We just need to wait and listen actively to and understand others' point of view. (Try telling that to world leaders.)

Baseball Cards

Collecting stuff as a hobby is popular. How many of us collect stamps, postcards, dolls, coins, bookmarks and the like. I have a friend who used to collect bus tickets. He used to travel extensively and would bring back lots of different bus tickets to add to his already large collection. Yet another collects Chinese New Year red packets. He has many albums of these and I must say, it is interesting to see the different red packets printed over the years. Collecting cards is very popular too. I remember a few years back, Pokemon cards were the rage here. I believe the cards that have been popular a long time are Sports cards especially Baseball Cards. A fan of baseball would surely have a good collection of these baseball cards.

Flying in Class

I've been meaning to try out this feature about posting via email.
Let's see whether it works.  Here's something funny to start off.

An airplane is flying over the United States at night. The pilot says:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the plane is losing altitude and all the baggage must be thrown out."

A little later, the pilot says "We're still losing altitude, we must throw everything out that is in the cabin".

The plane continues its descent despite more things being thrown out.

Pilot: "Still going down - we must throw out some people".

There's a big gasp from the passengers!

Pilot: "But to make this fair, passengers will be thrown out in alphabetical order.

So... A... any Africans on board?" No one moves.

"B... any Blacks on board?" No one moves.

"C... any Caribbeans on board?" Still, no one moves.

A little black boy - asks his dad: "Dad,...what are we?

Dad: " Tonight son, we are Zulus!"

Hello, your cellphone is not likely to explode

Ever heard of cellphones exploding? It is a scary thought, isn't it? But rest assured that cellphones do not explode for no apparent reason under normal circumstances according to cellphone manufacturers. Anyway, to prevent such a probability, cellphone manufacturers advise that depleted parts such as the battery should be replaced and with genuine items and at official service centres. More...

FreePledge - Shop, Donate, Feel Good

Online shopping is becoming popular. You can buy almost anything on the Internet. If you live in a remote place or are hard-pressed for time, online shopping would come in really handy as the goods would be delivered right up to your doorstep.

How would you like to be able to continue shopping at the regular stores that you frequent and at the same time do some good? I'm talking about doing charity. There is this organization, FreePledge, a social venture out of Stanford that has taken philantropy a step further into e-philantropy and has leveraged the power of growing e-commerce market to power non-profit organizations.

Launched in Nov 06 and is currently in beta, they currently serve 153 nonprofits and partner with 160 retailers that include Amazon, com, Drugstore.com, eBay, Expedia, Office Deport, Staples, Gaiam, Target, etc.

Support nonprofit organizations you care about every time you shop online at no cost. The next time you shop online, think FreePledge - Shop, Donate, Feel Good. Yes, you get to shop, you get to donate to charity and you get to feel good about it.

Big John doesn't pay

How many times have we jumped into something trying to solve a problem before we actually understand the current situation? Here's a story to illustrate the point. It'll serve as a good reminder.

One fine day, a bus driver went to the bus garage, started his bus, and drove off along the route. No problems for the first few stops - a few people got on, a few got off, and things went generally well. At the next stop, however, a big hulk of a guy got on. Six feet eight inch, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the driver and said, "Big John doesn't pay!" and sat down at the back.

Did I mention that the driver was five feet three inch, thin, and basically meek? Well, he was. Naturally, he didn't argue with Big John, but he wasn't happy about it. The next day the same thing happened - Big John got on again, made a show of refusing to pay, and sat down.

And the next day, and the one after that, and so forth. This grated on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way Big John was taking advantage of him. Finally he could stand it no longer.

He signed up for body building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff. By the end of the summer, he had become quite strong; what's more, he felt really good about himself. So on the next Monday, when Big John once again got on the bus and said,"Big John doesn't pay!," The driver stood up, glared back at the passenger, and screamed, "And why not?"

With a surprised look on his face, Big John replied, "Big John has a bus pass."

Management Lesson: "Be sure there is a problem in the first place before working hard to solve one."

Lasik Surgery

To do or not to do. That is the question. It's Lasik I'm talking about. My friends are still wondering whether to go ahead with the surgery to correct their vision or just stick to glasses and contacts. There's this website I found that might be able to provide them with information enough for them to make an informed decision. USAEyes.org is a nonprofit Lasik eye surgery patient advocacy that provides detailed objective information about laser eye surgery and certifies approved laser eye surgery doctors who meet specific patient outcome requirements. Information provided on this site is non-biased, simple to understand and is of a high quality.

Malaysia's Very Own Lost World

Malaysia is really a fascinating country. There are still undiscovered territories in our lush jungle I'm sure. Dark and mysterious corners too, I have no doubt. Anyway, recently in the '80s to be exact, a sort of a 'Lost World' was discovered in the heart of Sabah in East Malaysia. Imagine a self-contained forest where rare and endemic flora and fauna have thrived for millions of years in a saucer-shaped basin hemmed in by sheer cliffs. Step into the pristine Maliau Basin Conservation Area (MBCA), aptly dubbed the Lost World. For some reason, I'm not able to upload the pictures, so I'll just have to point you to the source of the article. Enjoy and share the fascination.

Good Home Security System

Here in Malaysia, the crime rate is on the rise and there's no day that goes by without having a crime being reported in the papers. Therefore, there is no time like the present to invest in our family's safety. Home safety is a good start. There are many security systems available but none as sophisticated as the ADT Monitoring security system.

ADT's alarms are not just simple alarms that make shrill noises. They are sophisticated systems designed with total safety to include protection from intruders and fire. ADT is firmly established as the largest provider of security services for more than five million customers in the United States which include Fortune 500 companies, top retailers, top banks, airports nationwide as well as seven million American homes. Our family deserves the best protection and the best protection does not have to be costly as ADT offers the best Home Security Deals that allow us to put safety first without putting a dent in our pocket.

Good Audio Visual Presentations

Have you been to a group presentation where you could hardly hear, let alone see what's going on in front? I have. I once went to a sales pitch gathering and ended up not getting enough information to make out what the whole thing was all about. That certainly was a total waste of time. Needless to say, I didn't sign up for the programme even though I was earlier on told how good that was and what kind of returns I would be expected to reap. My loss? Oh well...

These days, before I go to such activities, I would be sure to make inquiries to ensure that they at least have a decent AV system. Many people underestimate the power of Audio Visual Presentations and sadly they lose many good opportunities. If you are looking into installing or revamping your AV system, www.reflex.co.uk is a great place to start. Reflex are a specialist audio visual company and provide high quality audio visual solutions to end-user organisations in the public and private sectors.

The Trouble Tree

Good morning! Here's another tree story but this one is a little different. It tells about not taking your work troubles home with you but instead keep them away from the home and hang them at the Trouble Tree outside your home. It makes sense to me because most of us (me included) tend to bring our problems from work home and that could spoil the joy of the home environment. Read on.

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job, a flat tire made him lose an hour of work & his electric drill quit, his ancient one ton truck refused to start. As I drove him home, he sat in stony silence.

On arriving he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. Upon opening the door he had undergone an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do at the little tree.

"Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again." Funny thing is," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before."

Family Tree

Nowadays, the family unit is becoming more and more interesting and complex. Since time immemorial, man has been travelling and crossing state boundaries and settling in a land different from where he was born. These days with emigration, inter-marriages, re-marriages, adoption and what not, family members are now scattered all over the world.

Wouldn't it be nice if we can have a big picture of our entire family, from current family members to generations back? Actually, now it's possible. There's this site, ZOOOF, The Family Network, that has a system that allows you to build your family tree or network, write your biography, share the birth of a child, learn about your family's history and who knows you might find someone famous in your family somewhere along the line. There are all kinds of modules to share family stories, pictures, and there is even a treasury box to hide family secrets!

This beta version will run until February 14, so if you are interested to give it a try, send them an email with your name, email address, gender, country to: invite@zooof.com, and you will receive a personal invitation link. The program comes in 35 languages.

Weapons of Mass Destruction

Were there really weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Do we have an answer to this question? All I know is that many people died during the war and many too were killed before it. Audio recordings have been recovered and were played 10 days after Saddam's hanging. He was heard justifying the use of chemical weapons against the Iraqi Kurds in the late '80s, predicting they would kill thousands and that he alone among Iraq's leaders had the authority to order chemical attacks.

A Butterfly

I have received this several times and just got it today again so I thought I'd post it. Perhaps you've read it earlier too. Anyway, it'll serve as a good reminder that the things we do which we meant well may not turn out so well for others. Sometimes, it's better to let things take its course.

A man found a cocoon for a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through the little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and could go no farther. Then the man decided to help the butterfly.

He took a pair of scissors and snipped the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. Something was strange. The butterfly had a swollen body and shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened. In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and deformed wings. It was never able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand, was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the small opening of the cocoon are God`s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life.

If God allowed us to go throughall our life without any obstacles, that would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. Not only that, we could never fly.

The Fridge

As usual, I had to do some email clean-up as the Inbox had exceeded its quota and refused to let me move emails. This is frustrating. Deleting emails is tedious and one task I dislike doing but there's no easier way out. The plus side however is, sometimes, I come across a rare find - a joke that missed storage. The one below is one such. Enjoy.

At a doctors surgery one morning a patient arrives complaining of serious backache. The doctor examines him and asks him, "What the hell did you do to your back?"

The patient replies, "You know that I work for a local night club? This morning I got home to my apartment early and heard a noise in my bedroom. On entering I knew someone had been sleeping with my wife and the balcony door was open. I rushed out the balcony door and did not find anyone. As I looked down from the balcony I saw a man running out and he was dressing himself. I grabbed the fridge and threw it at him,That's how I strained my back"

The 2nd patient arrives looking as if he has been in a car wreck. The doctor says, "My previous looked bad, but you look terrible. What the hell happened to you?"

He replies, "You know I have been unemployed for a while now .Today was the first day at my new job. I forgot to set my alarm and was running late. I was running out of the building, getting dressed at the same time, and you won't believe it but I was hit by a fridge."

The 3rd patient arrives; he looks even worse than the other two patients do. The doctor is shocked. Again asks, "What the hell happened to you?"

"Well I was sitting in a fridge and someone threw it from the 3rd floor."

It's the little, little things that count

It's the little things that count. Do you agree? Came across this nice article on the little things or gestures that Malaysians can do or make to positively impact tourism, this year being Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

The article:

It’s the little, little things that count

VALLEY VIEW
By EDMAN MORAIS

NOT too long ago, a friend who had returned to the United States after his first visit to Malaysia sent me the customary postcard, which I thought would state his awe at being so close to the towering Petronas Twin Towers or even of the sandy beaches he had gone to.

I expected him to perhaps even gush about the cultural shows I had him attend or talk about the moments spent at the Muzium Negara. Well, he didn’t even mention about how much he had enjoyed the fresh seafood near the Klang harbour.

Lunch with God

Hi! Hope you had a great weekend. I wanted to go for that "Eye on Malaysia" Ferris wheel ride but the weather being overcast, I thought against it. Besides, it being the latest attraction in town, I expect the queue would be long. Perhaps another time. Anyway, let's start the week with a good story. Hope you'll enjoy it.

Lunch with GOD

A little boy wanted to meet God.

He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with
Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer and he started his journey.

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was sitting in the park just staring at some pigeons.

The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old lady looked hungry, so he offered her a Twinkie.

She gratefully accepted it and smiled at him. Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered her a root beer. Again, she smiled at him. The boy was delighted!

They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman, and gave her a hug.

She gave him her biggest smile ever.

When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was
surprised by the look of joy on his face.

She asked him, "What did you do today that made you look so happy?" He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before his mother could respond, he added, "You know what? She's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!"

Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face and asked, "Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?" She replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." However, before her son responded,

she added, "You know, he's much younger than I expected." Too often we underestimate the power of a touch,! ! a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Remember,

We don't know how God will look like. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.

Visit Malaysia 2007 Launch

The Visit Malaysia 2007 was launched in pomp and splendour at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa here last night. Even the rain did not dampen the spirit of the thousands, both local and foreign, who gathered as early as noon to witness the celebration. Colourful fireworks illuminated the sky throughout the celebration.

The Eye on Malaysia ferris wheel at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa will be open to the public until Dec 31, that is, end of this year.

Set up in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2007, anyone taking a ride in its 42 gondolas will be able to view major landmarks such as the Petronas Twin Towers and Menara Kuala Lumpur during the 12-minute ride. On a clear day, it was reported that Genting Highlands can also be seen.

The first week of Visit Malaysia 2007 has seen some 390,000 tourists, mostly from Asian countries, visiting Malaysia.

Weight Control

Many people I know are constantly talking about losing weight or seriously watching their weight. Indeed there are more obese people these days than say ten years back. Even a lot of children are grossly overweight. Could it be blamed on more fast-food joints or indiscipline? More people eat out these days and over-indulgence of fatty foods could also contribute to weight-gain. Lack of regular exercise is also a major contributory factor.

Some of my friends have signed up with a gym. In the beginning, there was much enthusiasm and they used to work out per the scheduled number of days as prescribed by their trainers. But over time, their trips to the gym were reduced and slowly trickled to a halt.

Another group of friends do not work out in a gym but concentrate on their diet, mostly refraining from high carbohydrates and eating smaller portions. The success rate of this group is more promising and their weight has been maintained. But I think exercise goes hand-in-hand with dieting.

I believe personal training can yield success with proper knowhow and relevant information. It is important to know the right kind of training and how to protect oneself from injuries during physical training. Proper nutrition is also important to ensure one stays healthy in the process of weight control.

How to Look Fab in Your Passport Pictures

I don't know about yours but all my pictures in official documents look less than desirable to say the least. The other day while going through an old issue of Women's Weekly, I found this interesting article on how to look fab in your passport pictures. Let me share it with you so that you can look fab too.

1. Watch the crop
Passport photos should allow immigration inspectors to recognise you. If you're DIY-ing yourself, include a blue background, free of shadows, and include in the shot a front view of your full face, with open eyes. The top of your hair and your shoulders should be within the photo. Be warned that unlike some other countries, our immigration office is pretty strict and may reject a DIY photo, unless you do it so well, they can't tell the difference.

2. Look like a Star
Take the trouble to glam up or go to a hair salon before taking the photo. Here's a tip: A flattering angle for the face would be to just slightly tilt your chin down. Push your head out from the neck to give a better jaw-line.

3. Don't say cheese
Your face should have a natural expression. Too wide a grin actually thwarts your face. Smile gently and think happy thoughts. This usually makes your eyes sparkle and the smaile will show through.

4. Watch the shine
Photo booth flashes tend to be quite bright, so make sure your face is shine-free. Guys can use a tissue to blot, while women can try powdering their T-zone.

Josh Groban

Joshua Winslow Groban but many of us only know him as Josh Groban was born on February 27, 1981. Nominated for an American Grammy, is known for his mature and versatile lyrical baritone voice. He has released three albums plus one live concert album. His first album went from gold to double-platinum. He got his big break at the age of 17 when he was introduced by his vocal coach to Grammy-winning producer/arranger David Foster. Josh Groban was involved in many charity concerts. He has a huge following of fans called Grobanites. Are you a Grobanite yet?

X-citing deal for air travellers

Did you notice the price on the AirAsia stewardesses's t-shirts? That's the lowest price of an AirAsia X one-way ticket to the city of Manchester in Britain, Huangzhou and Tianjin. AirAsia X is the new long-haul budget airline operated by Fly Asian Xpress (FAX) that was launched yesterday. The new airline will start operations in July but passengers can book their tickets from next month.

Dubai Sports City

When we hear Dubai, we normally associate it with oil and the hotel, the Burj Al Arab. In fact, revenues from oil account for only 6% of Dubai's gross domestic product. A majority of the revenue is derived from foreign investment and increasingly from tourism. After Abu Dhabi, Dubai is the most populous and second largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates.

A friend recently swung by Dubai after a tour of Egypt. He had dinner at the Burj and took in a tour of the hotel as well. Besides the hotel, what fascinated him also was the vast choice of property in Dubai. While many people are interested in the artificial Islands like Dubai Marina, 'The Island' and 'the World', his interest is in the dubai sports city. Who knows, Dubai may be his holiday address.

Goal-setting

My ex-colleague used to preach about goal-setting and the importance of doing it if one wishes to achieve more. I came across this list in the papers the other day which was penned by a 9-year-old. It fascinated me. It is a simple list of short-term goals but his goals are specific, one of the criteria of goal-setting. Something perhaps we, adults, could emulate.

I reproduce below the young man's list:

THINGS I WANT TO ACHIEVE IN 2007
--------------------------------
1. Become the best student in Year 4.
2. Improve my swimming skills.
3. Get my black belt in taekwon-do.
4. Save enough money for a plane ride.
5. Learn more about the earth.

Amazon.com

Those of us who made purchases from Amazon in December last year, helped make it the "Best Ever" for Amazon. The recent holiday season was the best in the company's 12-year history with its busiest day being December 11. On this day, Amazon customer orders exceeded four million items.

The busy December 11 day also saw 3.4 million packages sent to customers over 200 countries including 100,000 to US military addresses overseas. Amazon has operations in Britain, France, Germany, Japan and Canada. Videogame consoles including Nintendo DS Lite, the PlayStation2 and the Xbox 360 made up the popular items. New Super Mario Bros, Brain Age and Madden football were the popular videogames.

Guards depositing money robbed

Do you think this could be an inside job? Recently, two robbers brandishing meat cleavers threatened armed security guards and got away with RM158,000 in cash. This happened in a bank in Kuala Lumpur. It was over in five minutes.

This daring heist occurred at 1.30pm when two guards from a security company were at the bank to transfer money from a cash deposit machine to a storage compartment. The robbers grabbed the bag of money and fled.

For security reasons and incidents like this, all banks are now equipped with hidden cameras. I'm sure at least the Hidden Camera nearest the crime spot would have recorded the whole episode. The authorities would need to scrutinise the tapes to identify the robbers and apprehend them. Police have detained the guards for questioning and are investigating if it was an inside job.

These days, cameras can come nicely hidden behind items such as clocks, air fresheners, books, computer speakers, toys, pictures and lots more. Hidden cameras are not only for offices, they are also useful in the home to ensure the children get proper care from the nanny or even to find out if your spouse is cheating. You can have a choice of a wired or a wireless set. There's also a StealthCam with a built in DVR that records video direct to a Secure Digital Memory card.

KL Market may beat Regional Bourses

The way the market is going, looks like the KLCI will achieve the target of 1,200 points. Some fund managers even say it is quite conservation. Beyond the 1,200-point psychological resistance level lies the all-time high of 1,330 points set at the height of 1993/94 bull run. Regional markets sailed through their markers last year with ease. It's now Malaysia's turn. So, are you riding the wave?

Beautiful Turkey

Sometime back, I missed a trip to Turkey with some friends due to work commitments. I could tell they had a great time. I've always known Turkey to be a beautiful country and the pictures they brought back confirmed it. While they were there, they sampled different types of Turkish delights, food that is, and they visited lots of beautiful places, beaches, mosques, markets. Of course, when ladies travel, shopping is a priority so shopped till they dropped, they did. Needless to say, they all came home with extra baggage.

For weeks, they couldn't stop talking about Turkey and everything they have seen and experienced there. One even expressed an intention to invest in a Property in Turkey to make it a holiday home, she said.

A Drink Or Two A Day

Now, this is interesting. According to a study, a drink or two everyday may reduce chances of a heart attack.

The study of 11,000 men supports other research that shows small-to-moderate amounts of alcohol can lower the risk of heart disease, by increasing the levels of high density lipoprotein, or "good" cholesterol, and by making blood less likely to clot.

Internet access - cut back

Going online tomorrow in the office should be challenging as many people will be back to work after an extended weekend. I'm sure the Internet will be congested and response time will be frustratingly slow as the cables damaged during the two earthquakes in southern Taiwan will need another two weeks or so before they are fixed.

The Star reported that Corporate Internet users have been advised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to exercise discipline when using the Internet in view of the limited bandwidth available. Also, non-vital communications should be limited or not allowed at all. Users might also want to consider cutting back on using Skype and other Voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) applications. The use of chat and instant messaging applications should also be disallowed or restricted at the office.

We can all do our part to lessen the congestion by adhering to the above wherever possible. And of course, a little patience goes a long way.

Why we should go home on time

This is very inspirational and wise. Are you one who stays back in the office even after everyone has gone home? You might find something here that may change your work style for the better.

Mr. Narayana Murthy is undoubtedly one of the most famous persons from Karnataka. He is known not just for building the biggest IT Empire in India but also for his simplicity. Almost every important dignitary visits InfoSys campus. He delivered an interesting speech during an employee session with another IT company in India. He is incidentally, one of the top 50 influential people of Asiaaccording to an Asiaweek publication and also the new IT Advisor to the Thailand Prime Minister.

Extract of Mr. Narayana Murthy's Speech during MentorSession:

I know people who work 12 hours a day, six days a week, or more. Some people do so because of a work emergency where the long hours are only temporary. Other people I know have put in these hours for years. I do not know if they are working all these hours, but I do know they are in the office this long. Others put in long office hours because they are addicted to the workplace.

Whatever the reason for putting in overtime, working long hours over the long term is harmful to the person and to the organization. There are things managers can do to change this for everyone's benefit. Being in the office long hours, over long periods of time, makes way for potential errors.

My colleagues who are in the office long hours frequently make mistakes caused by fatigue. Correcting these mistakes requires their time as well as the time and energy of others. I have seen people work Tuesday through Friday to correct mistakes made after 5 PM on Monday.

Another problem is that people who are in the office long hours are not pleasant company. They often complain about other people (who are not working as hard); they are irritable, or cranky, or even angry. Other people avoid them. Such behaviour poses problems, where work goes much better when people work together instead of avoiding one another.

As Managers, there are things we can do to help people leave the office. First and foremost is to set the example and go homeourselves. I work with a manager who chides people for working long hours. His words quickly lose their meaning when he sends these chiding group e-mails with a time-stamp of 2 AM, Sunday.

Second is to encourage people to put some balance in their lives. For instance, here is a guideline I find helpful:

1) Wake up, eat a good breakfast, and go to work.
2) Work hard and smart for eight or nine hours.
3) Go home.
4) Read the books/comics, watch a funny movie, dig in the dirt, play with your kids, etc.
5) Eat well and sleep well.

This is called recreating. Doing steps 1, 3, 4, and 5 enable step 2. Working regular hours and recreating daily are simple concepts. They are hard for some of us because that requires 'personal change'. They are possible since we all have the power to choose to do them.

In considering the issue of overtime, I am reminded of my oldest son. When he was a toddler, if people were visiting the apartment, he would not fall asleep no matter how long the visit was, and no matter what time of day it was. He would fight off sleep until the visitors left. It was as if he was afraid that he would miss some thing. Once our visitors' left, he would go to sleep. By this time, however, he was over tired and would scream through half the night with nightmares. He, my wife, and I, all paid the price for his fear of missing out.

Perhaps some people put in such long hours because they do not want to miss anything when they leave the office. The trouble with this is that events will never stop happening. That is life! Things happen 24 hours a day. Allowing for little rest is not ultimately practical. So, take a nap. Things will happen while you are asleep, but you will have the energy to catch up when you wake.

Hence,

"LOVE YOUR JOB, BUT NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR COMPANY BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE COMPANY STOPS LOVING YOU" - Narayana Murthy

Boise, Idaho

November and December are worrisome months for people in the east coasts of Terengganu and Kelantan. These two months are the monsoon months and the heavy downpour would normally result in floods. This year however, the weather has unpredictably changed and heavy rainfall was experienced in the south in Johor causing much loss and inconvenience to the people. Many people are still housed in relief centers waiting for the flood waters to subside so that they can head back home.

The weather here in KL has also turned for the worse. It was sunny the past week but today, the rains came. The authorities are gearing up for floods which would occur in low-lying areas in the city this time of the year.

Even East Malaysia is getting the brunt of the bad weather as there was a second case of drowning in Sabah in two days as stormy weather continued to hit the state.

If it's not floods then it's the haze or the tsunami. Is there no place safe in Malaysia anymore? Perhaps we should move to Boise in Idaho. I know, it's a long way from here but you never know, I'm guessing life could be better off there with no upheavals or worries caused by extreme weather conditions. I read that people are moving to Boise because of the quality of life there.

For more information on Boise and real estate in Boise, you may want to visit the Boise real estate Blog. This list of houses for sale may be of help too.
