The Eye of God

I am sure you have seen this countless times - me too - but it is such an awesome sight that I am blogging it to give it a permanent home so that I can go back to it whenever I feel like I need a little inspiration.

This is a picture NASA took with the hubble telescope. It's named "The Eye of God". I wonder what it is. Perhaps God was caught looking down on us or was it photo-shopped to fool the world.

  1. So named, but it's definitely not the eye of God...which mortal can see God?

It's also not the eye of Casanova, but possibly a supernova.

  2. Joe, you may be right about the supernova - a rare phenomenon that's been captured.

  3. It's a supernova remnant. There are a number of similar objects out there, such as the Smoke Ring and Crab Nebulae.

Actually, your picture looks kind of like the Helix Nebula.

The universe is such a beautiful thing...even in death.

    No matter what it is...
The fact that it was captured and our imagination went wild is a proof that we are seeking for something
Nature just has too many wonders that we cannot even star to comprehend

"Star"? Funny you should put it that way! Yes, I'm sure it was a simple typing slip-up, but it was so appropriate!

    Well said.

  6. MM, thanks for the information. You are right, it is Helix Nebula.

"The universe is such a beautiful thing...even in death."

Unfortunately, the best we could manage to witness the beauty with our naked eyes is just the sky, the stars and the moon...or a fleeting UFO.

  7. Z, nature and its wonders - is there a higher authority who put everything in place or is it plain old evolution? I wonder.

That is a fact that we will not know
May be we should let things unravel by itself rather than unraveling it

  9. What I meant is that that beautiful nebula was created by the death of a star. A lot of glorious things in the universe are the result of dead or dying stars.

In fact, all of the elements that make life possible on Earth are there thanks to dead stars. Life from death; the cycle continues.

  12. MM, I got your message when you said"

"The universe is such a beautiful thing...even in death."

I actually like the way you put it - so lyrical.

Robin, thinking about lunch at 11:16am? I can think of two reasons: either you didn't have a good breakfast or there's not enough work. haha......
