In Singapore when the pace gets too hectic to handle, there are islands around it to escape to for some peace and quiet.
Pulau Ubin is one of 63 islands (didn't know there are so many) that make up the city-state of Singapore whose citizens make up about 63% of the 5.2million people. (Source: Wikipedia)
Here is a lovely sunset scene on Pulau Ubin.
As dusk shrouds Pulau Ubin, "mainland" Singapore lights up the horizon.
Batam Island - where the fine white sand and sparkling waters of Melur Beach are arguably the finest in the area.

Heard from Mango who read the Chinese newspaper about the rich and famous buying and owning island ooops got short memory cant remember in which country. Celine Dion is in the list. Must have good security to be safe staying on an island. Any of these mentioned islands for sale? Bananaz's interested haha.
ReplyDeleteThe only outlying island of Singapore I have been to is Sentosa...
ReplyDeleteI have never even stepped into Singapore...let alone the islands. :p
ReplyDeleteOh! I have never been to any islands around the big island Singapore! Haha!
ReplyDeletethis island belongs to singapore?? haha, no idea as the only outlying island i know is sentosa.. err, btw is it still an island now??
ReplyDeleteBananaz, islands are for sale everywhere in the world. They range from a small island for as low as a 5-figure price-tag (in USD, of course) to millions for bigger islands. Even our Malaysian singer, Awi, owns an island off the east coast. I read that in a local paper sometime ago.
ReplyDeleteSo which island(s) have you (and Mango) set eyes on, eh?
KS, I guess the same for most of us though Batam Island is pretty popular among Malaysians. I have a friend working there too.
ReplyDeleteTekkaus, I'm surprised considering Malacca is so close to Singapore - perhaps a mere two- to three-hour roadtrip. December is a good time to visit Singapore for the Christmas light displays especially along Orchard Road.
ReplyDeleteFoong, I can safely say you are not alone.
ReplyDeleteSK, last time I checked, it is still an island. According to Wikipedia, Sentosa is a resort island, visited by some five million people a year. Attractions include a two-kilometre long sheltered beach, Fort Siloso, two golf courses and two five-star hotels, and the Resorts World Sentosa, featuring the theme park Universal Studios Singapore.
ReplyDeleteSentosa can be reached from the Singapore mainland via a short causeway or Cable Car, which originates from Mount Faber and passes through HarbourFront en route to its final destination. The island is also accessible by the SGD$140 million Sentosa Express monorail, which replaced the Sentosa Monorail in 2006. It has three stations on Sentosa and one on mainland Singapore.
