Side-effects with medications

We all see a doctor if our medical condition warrants a visit. In all cases, we are prescribed medications to either relieve symptoms and/or heal the condition. In severe cases, there are follow-up visits and prolonged intake of the medication. Some medications do come with side-effects but may not manifest at all. However, in some patients, the effects may be damaging, even to their unborn child they were carrying at the time.

One such drug that can be damaging is Topamax. This is an anti-convulsant used to treat epileptic seizures in children and adults, and is also prescribed to prevent migraine headaches. Topamax can result in cleft lip or cleft palate – birth defects that occur when the lip or palate fail to completely fuse together. The defect can result in a small, notched lip or in extreme cases, an open groove that extends from the roof of the mouth to the nose.

If you happen to need legal assistance with a Topamax lawsuit, attorneys at O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath are who you are looking for. Their understanding that your child’s injuries may not be your fault – instead, possibly a dangerous side effect of that particular medication, together with their expertise and experience make them uniquely well-equipped to handle even the most complex products liability claims.
